Fairbank Ranch: decent weather, serene, nice people and nice scenery.

I'd love to see people in other parts of the county add to this thread. For instance, we haven't received any comments from anyone living in Poway, Oceanside, Lakeside, Lemon Grove, Barrio Logan, or Carlsbad. If you live in one of these areas or any others, and feel so inclined, please add your thoughts on the area you live in to this thread so that it presents a fuller picture of all of the diversity that San Diego County offers. I know that it will be helpful to people who want to understand the different areas in San Diego from a locals perspective.

Thanks again to everyone who has already contributed to this thread!

In another thread, Snpdragon mentioned San Diego Magazine's Annual "Best Places To Live in San Diego" issue. I thought it might be a good addition to this thread, so I am posting the last three issues here as well:

2016:

San Diego's Next Hot Neighborhoods - San Diego Magazine - March 2016 - San Diego, California

http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/Feat...Neighborhoods/

2015:

Best Neighborhoods in San Diego - San Diego Magazine - March 2015 - San Diego, California

2014:

SD's Best Neighborhoods - San Diego Magazine - March 2014 - San Diego, California

I like living in Barrio Logan because of the convenience and proximity to downtown, since I mostly work downtown. The bus runs every 15 minutes, and I can transfer at 12th & Imperial to another trolley or bus, or take it to the City College Trolley Station.

Pacific Beach.

I love how close I am to the beach and boardwalk. I love how far away I am from the interior in terms of climate (I've lived in Spring Valley, Lake Murray, and El Cajon in the past). I love the laid back vibe here. I love how close I am to everything I need. I love how most of the other parents are very much like me in temperament. I love PB Elementary.

The price is expensive, but I know why. It's a good life as long as I can afford it.

* walking distance to Lake Murray-take my dog daily for a long walk there
* good places to eat within at the most a 10 minute drive
* I'm right off the 8
* trees everywhere
* not congested, not urban
* quiet
* in my complex (I know this technically is about the town) the people are all professionals mainly 20s-40s

Dislikes-
* even though it's not far from places in town I go to frequently (Mission Valley, the beaches, Gaslamp) I feel separated from San Diego
* temperature is hot as hell
* growing homeless population, I also see the same RVs parked on my local street regularly
* prices are about the same here as it is in other nice parts of San Diego (buildings here are newer, more modern versus many on other parts of San Diego seem older)
Of the other places I've lived in San Diego County, this was my favorite. Lake Murray Reservoir is a great walk. I lived in the Lake district (all of the streets have "Lake" in their name) and it was very livable. I wouldn't have minded sending my kids to the San Carlos school areas.

OK I live in Carlsbad but in the La Costa area which is actually closer to Encinitas than to Carlsbad Village. Anyway, like:
Love our condo along the golf course. Lots of good restaurants, convenient to freeway yet quiet on our cul de sac.
Love riding down 101
Good schools to raise our kids. And I found a great opportunity in my trade here working throughout North County.
Love the mild weather of course! (though a bit hot and sticky these past few summers)

Dislike:
Like most areas, traffic. I've gotten used to it though and know some alternate routes. And though most people here are very nice I do run into the entitled ones occasionally, I kinda wish we had more diversity here.

Thanks moved, TristamShandy and mauialoha for adding your descriptions of what you like about the areas you live in. There are SO many great places to live in San Diego County, it is really rediculous!

If you haven't tried The Taco Stand on the 101 in downtown Encinitas, I highly recommend it for Ensenada style Mexican food. Don't mind the line out the door, it moves fast and a line is a good sign!
