Hello my name is Teresa and I'm looking to relocate in SD but, I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the city from any thing to every thing. I would like some advice on area's and the people here. I've heard that El cajon is a horrible area and that at some apartment complexes, people pee in the elevator's and make noise well off in to the night. So I want to know where the nice civilized people are. Thanks.

It would help if you told us the addresses you are looking at. I would stay away from the 3 mile radius from 2nd and Main street. The nice parts of El Cajon that I know are all SFH's without Apt complexes near them.
Why don't you look in La Mesa? Most of the apts are much better there, esp. North of the 8. Good Luck!

Yeah north of the 8 is great.Rhyming un-planed.Down here in the South cites and areas like Chula Vista,Eastlake,Bonita,Otay Ranch, and parts of S.San Diego are good too.Others not so good. South Bay kind of gets a negative rep at times. Most of the time it's from people who don't live or come down here so they really wouldn't know much about it to begin with.Point Loma is excellent but the street system in and out of there sucks a lot.Mission Valley,La Mesa,Ken.Mesa,Tierrasanta,Mira Mesa, and UTC are some of my personal favorites. Also use apartmentratings.com and google maps when looking at apartments. It helps a lot.

Check this San Diego chart, which shows median home prices in each zip code for 2007.

DQNews - San Diego Union Tribune Zip Code Chart (http://www.dqnews.com/ZIPSDUT2007.shtm - broken link)

Chances are, if the median (average) home prices are very low in a given area, it's probably not a good area to live.

I also highly recommend San Diego Craigslist for finding apartments and other types of housing:

craigslist: san diego classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

Much depends on your budget for housing. There are plenty of nice places in San Diego.
