Feels great. I love having the ability to stand still and sweat and there's no sun out.

So, I actually slept through the night, but I woke up remembering that my dream included viewing a landscape in the aftermath of a lightning strike. It's odd how my brain and hearing absorbed the thunder into the narrative of my dream.

Is the september-october humidity the new normal, as we typically used to get very dry and hot Santa Ana desert air, back in the day...

We actually didn't get anywhere near as much of the monsoonal flow this summer as we have the past two years (generally July/August). Right now we're getting the edge of a tropical storm, which is actually a fairly unusual occurrence for us. That's what's causing the current humidity. We're predicted to have Santa Ana Conditions this weekend, though, which is more in keeping with the season.

Global warming? You get your variations of domes of high pressure and increased humidity on the backside of the ridges with the excess CO2. So actually both will happen but on an extreme level. Also, the oceans are still slightly warmer than normal from whatever is left of last years El Niño. But with a La Niña coming, the cold waters will destroy any storm activity that approach SoCal from the south.

All I know is that the surf has been world class for three days now...allll day. It has seriously been as good as it gets. This morning the wind started to blow offshore about 9 am and was about 80 degrees... and waves were chest to shoulder high. it doesn't get any better.BUT, it felt VERY reminiscent of the 2007 fire season. Let's hope this is not a precursor to repetition. The surf was world class then as well, but the air quality and livelihoods lost were not. my body is still recovering form 6-8 hour sessions for 5 days in a row. Oceanside was a ghost town because the air quality was so bad.....anyways, didn't mean to derail. Back to the OP...

Air quality has been bad almost all of summer. It's supposed to cool off for a few days, then another blast of dry, hot offshore flow winds, followed by another round of muggy weather and maybe even more rain by the end of Sep. And keep in mind that the last la niña WAS during the 2007-2008 fire season!
