Moving to Poway
I may be transfering to Poway with my job. Is it as expensive to live there as San Diego? Also what are the good neighborhoods there and the bad ones? I'll be looking to get an apartment, any suggestions?

I just wanted to comment on Poway and it's surrounding areas. If you like that country in a city living, this is your place. It's a family oriented town with very wealthy and successful people. You will find your Chargers and Padres with families living in the hills of Poway. The kids might disgust you because most come from extremely wealthy families who give them whatever they want. The school systems are amazing and are some of the best in the nation. Poway apartments are not too expensive considering the the apartments surrounding. Rancho Bernardo (an elder community) is usually a little more expensive when it comes to the apartments cause they are newer. You will find larger corporate stores as well as mom and pop stores. Extremely safe place to live. Walk around Poway with no hesitation. There are a few parks (Old Poway Park, Lake Poway and Blue Sky), several of golf courses, 30 minutes from the beach, 45-60 minutes from the Julian mountains with snow (good apple pie). Poway was hit by the fires about 4 years ago and again this past year...the hills surrounding. If you'll be working in Poway, move to an apartment complex in Poway (92064), Rancho Bernardo (92128, 92127), Carmel Mountain (92127?), Sabre Springs, Skripps Ranch (92131), or Rancho Penasquitos (92129). You will never have to get on the freeway and you will love it...all within max 20 minute drive. From the freeway, Poway is about 15 minutes inland. All are good neighborhoods around Poway....you can't really find anything bad and unsafe. If you like a single life, downtown SD is about 30 minutes away with a great club night life. I've spent 19 years of my life here and it's extremely hard to leave. Beautiful weather, sun sun and more sun, can get dry during the hot seasons, rain off and on with the sun in-between during the winter but nothing to complain about. Gas prices are insane, and drivers are crazy on the freeways.

I would say Carmel Mtn. Ranch/Sabre Springs have the nicest apartments. Most of Poway is middle-class, though. I wouldn't characterize most of the residents as wealthy.
It's going to be the same price to live there as San Diego. It's right on the edge of SD, so no difference in costs.
We lived in an apartment on Pomerado Road (a main north/south thoroughfare) for a few years, and I liked it. Not fancy, but moderately priced and it's easy to get to freeways and lots of convenient shopping nearby. I wouldn't say there's any bad areas of Poway. A few dumpier -looking appartments tucked here and there, but mostly nice.

Downtown Poway is middle class, Poway Road, Garden Road and Pomerado. Homes range from 350-600k for a home built in the 70's. When you get onto Espola Road, Twin Peaks Road, etc. (the newer Poway, in the hills) your looking at 600k-6million homes. So your looking at upper middle class/wealthy considering the rest of the country.
Most Poway apartments are either on Poway Road, Community Road, Midland, or Pomerado. Between Poway Road and Twin Peaks. I would stay away from living on Poway Road or Pomerado if you don't like mad traffic during rush hour. Those roads are the main roads in town and can get extremely packed. If you'll be working in the business park, that is up on Scripps Poway PkWY and there are mainly Condos, Townhomes and track homes up there. Apartments are towards the freeway.
Hope all our feedback helps.

I'd have to say to stay away from apartments in Poway also...carmel mt. ranch (very close) and RB (also close and nearer the northern end of Poway). There are some nice condos you can rent in Poway and maybe go that route over apartments.

Why would you stay away from the apartments in Poway?

Since your job is in poway you are smart to look for a place in poway because the traffic in and out (on the 56 is it??) is horrendous. But if you live slightly out side of it like in RB or carmel mountain, I think you would be ok.
