When I read some of these negative posts I can't help but think that the person writing it is the problem b/c I've usually had the opposite experience. Someone mentioned that while walking around they noticed few people smile. I always get into nice little conversations or what not in line at the grocery store and I'm not the one that starts it. Yesterday at Trader Joe's the cashier and lady in front of me were just shooting the sh*t talking about going back to CO and how they were both from Ohio and both had big happy smiles on their face. Then when I go there the cashier was friendly and outgoing to me, and that happens more times than not. All the people that work in my building, who I don't work with b/c it's mostly another company, always smile and say hi when they pass. I find it's so easy to start a conversation here with people. And I don't consider myself a particularly outgoing person just one who is polite and friendly to people. I really would like to meet some of these people that talk trash on the people here b/c based on many of their other posts you can get a good idea what type of person they are; many seem to have nothing but complaints and negativity.
Glad to hear that somebody else feels this way - - I was starting to think it was just me! On the whole, from my experience, people are just more pleasant out here, whether it be chance encounters (sitting next to someone at the bar) or more substantial relationships. My wife and I moved out here knowing only two people, but now we have extensive connections. It's to the point that my house repairs are falling well behind because we keep getting invited to barbeques, pool parties, etc! Like the above poster, my wife and I aren't overly outgoing people either and have never had this same experience in other places we've lived. In a city that is made up of people who come from every other place in the country, you'll find somebody who relates to you. You won't be alone because a very large percentage of the population are transplants. They'll relate to you and that bond is an early in to getting to know lots of people.

WOW! Funniest thing I've read in quite a while. Vice Lords huh?? Ive been to Chi once and thought it was amazing. Quite a swagger people have in that city.
I have been debating moving to SD for quite a while now and I think besides cost of living, nat disasters (fire/quakes), traffic it seems like my type of place. If you complain about people wearing shorts and flip flops all the time you suck at life and should move to Canada...
Its true. ........ My brother is a gang-crimes policeman in Chicago and from his info there is an alliance of gangs that don't tolerate new or out-of-state gangs operating on their drug selling turf.

"People" alliance : El Rukns, Vicelords, Micky Cobras and Black Stones.

"Folks" alliance : Black Gangster Disciples, New Breed Disciples, Black Disciples, Gangster Disciples.

The above alliances fight each other and they also both attacked the Bloods and Crips before they could "set up house" in Chicago.

Today was so beautiful, people were blowing me kisses on the road and they were smiling and waving. There was a little sunshine in the corner of the sky smiling and dancing. I started singing and a couple birds flew right down from their tree and landed on my shoulder and whistled a little toon.

I could have swore I saw an angel appear in the sky today. It's never smoggy at all cause it's a beach town. Their are these awesome, fantastic, gorgeously beautiful palm trees. But not everyone has them only a couple people. Everyone has so much money that it's coming out of their ears.

This place is an unbelievable utopia!
I remember when you posted this a while back and I thought it was hilarious! Actually, everyone in San Diego dances like ballerinas on the streets and do cartwheels while singing "I'm so happy...I live in San Diego...THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!!" Yeah, everyone is always happy in San Diego because of the weather, which is why there's no crime. There's also no pollution, no racism, no humidity, and everyone is friendly, lol.

Now for someone who likes living in the ghetto, they may not like a place that's too happy, such as San Diego. All joking and sarcasm aside, here is my list of negative things about San Diego other than the cost:

-Traffic and bad drivers
-Hard to find parking
-Rude people and poor customer service
-Too conservative, especially by California standards
-Too many transplants who act like they belong there
-Illegal immigrants
-Lots of stuck up and shady people, superficial and materialistic. People who have a high school mentality, even in their 30's and 40's (cliques, status, making fun of others, and focused on what's the cool thing to do).
-I wouldn't want to live in a ghetto myself, but San Diego is too much the other extreme (too upitty for my taste). I like a more happy medium with mainly middle class people (Seattle, Portland, Denver, etc.). San Diego has a few areas like that, such as O.B. and La Mesa.
-The weather can get monotonous if you like 4 seasons and constant changes in weather. I like having afternoon T-storms in the summertime.
-The slowness and small-town or suburban mentality.
-The sprawl and how it does not feel like a big city, downtown skyline is bland and buildings have a 500 ft. restriction due to its proximity to the airport. Not very well planned, especially with the freeway systems and mass transit.
-If you're a single guy, there's a lot of competition with other guys since the male-to-female ratio is like 2:1 since it's a military town.
-The fact that people make San Diego out to be like it's a perfect utopia.

Just to not be completely negative, I'll list the good things about San Diego:
-Mild temperatures, low humidity
-Attractive females
-Nice scenery in many places, especially by the bay and coast
-Good Mexican food
-Nice areas such as Little Italy, Gaslamp, Marina, Old Town, Coronado, Pt. Loma, La Jolla.
-The mountains to the east, though not the Rockies, Sierras, Cascades or Appalacians, has some nice places such as Julian, Lake Cuyamaca, Mt. Laguna, and Palomar Mtn.

Truth:

San Diego County - 2006
Males - 50.6%
Females - 48.9%

U.S. Average - 2006
Males - 52.4%
Females - 48.4%

Translation:

There's actually more women than men (as a ratio) in San Diego County than in the U.S. as a whole.

I'm assuming that the "SEA" in your name is for "Seattle". Talk about a city that people claim can do no wrong. The Seattle honks are the most pretentious lot of the bunch - - and that's saying something with the Boston and San Fran crowds vying for the title.
