We're all transplants, and we all belong wherever we (legally) choose to go. Be glad you aren't seeing beautiful farmland being destroyed to make way for housing and conveniences for northeastern 'transplants' moving south. At least the people moving out here are doing so because they appreciate and want to partake in the laid back lifestyle. I have no doubt that San Diego was better a decade or two ago, but I think many other parts of the country have declined at a greater rate over the same period.

Actually, everyone in San Diego dances like ballerinas on the streets and do cartwheels while singing "I'm so happy...I live in San Diego...THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!!" Yeah, everyone is always happy in San Diego because of the weather, which is why there's no crime. There's also no pollution, no racism, no humidity, and everyone is friendly, lol.

Now for someone who likes living in the ghetto, they may not like a place that's too happy, such as San Diego. All joking and sarcasm aside, here is my list of negative things about San Diego other than the cost:

-Traffic and bad drivers
-Hard to find parking
-Rude people and poor customer service
-Too conservative, especially by California standards
-Too many transplants who act like they belong there
-Illegal immigrants
-Lots of stuck up and shady people, superficial and materialistic. People who have a high school mentality, even in their 30's and 40's (cliques, status, making fun of others, and focused on what's the cool thing to do).
-I wouldn't want to live in a ghetto myself, but San Diego is too much the other extreme (too upitty for my taste). I like a more happy medium with mainly middle class people (Seattle, Portland, Denver, etc.). San Diego has a few areas like that, such as O.B. and La Mesa.
-The weather can get monotonous if you like 4 seasons and constant changes in weather. I like having afternoon T-storms in the summertime.
-The slowness and small-town or suburban mentality.
-The sprawl and how it does not feel like a big city, downtown skyline is bland and buildings have a 500 ft. restriction due to its proximity to the airport. Not very well planned, especially with the freeway systems and mass transit.
-If you're a single guy, there's a lot of competition with other guys since the male-to-female ratio is like 2:1 since it's a military town.
-The fact that people make San Diego out to be like it's a perfect utopia.

Just to not be completely negative, I'll list the good things about San Diego:
-Mild temperatures, low humidity
-Attractive females
-Nice scenery in many places, especially by the bay and coast
-Good Mexican food
-Nice areas such as Little Italy, Gaslamp, Marina, Old Town, Coronado, Pt. Loma, La Jolla.
-The mountains to the east, though not the Rockies, Sierras, Cascades or Appalacians, has some nice places such as Julian, Lake Cuyamaca, Mt. Laguna, and Palomar Mtn.
What is with you? All you do is put down SD in every thread that you can in this entire forum? We get it, after living here for 10 excruciating years of your life, you've now realized that this is the worst place on the planet. For some strange reason, it seems to pain you that some people may actually like it here.

I saw that report before and bet most of those extra females are widows so if you are looking to find a mate at a young age that number would be different.

Go to any club or the beach and you shall see. Chicks got it made here.

A few general thoughts ....

San Diego is a very big city, and it is not all the same in all sections of the city.

There are some great areas, some very good areas, some good areas, and some bad areas.

Some areas have extremely nice climates which are very comfortable most the time, and others areas are less comfortable.

Some areas are higher in crime, and some areas have practically no crime.

Then there's the people ....

Some are good natured, and will be happy practically anywhere they live.

Others may have led troubled lives, and are going to be pissed off at just about everything, no matter where they live. Even in San Diego.

So I would say it's difficult to judge San Diego or it's people as a whole.

Even the people who respond to this thread may provide advice to you based on the type of person they are (generally good natured or generally pissed off).

My own experience with San Diego has been a very positive one.

I live a few miles from the coast just east of Mission Bay, and the weather here is absolutely fantastic. It's probably the best weather in the entire U.S.

My traffic experiences have been mixed. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. My one major issue with traffic is that other cars tend to want to speed on major highways, is sometimes challenging for me, since I tend to want to drive at the speed limit. I also don't like when other drivers don't use turn signals.

As far as the type of people that live here, I think they are mostly friendly, but that too depends on what section of San Diego they live in.

I personally have never encountered anyone that seemed to be a problem. I've occasionally seen drunks and homeless at the beaches and Mission Bay, but I've never encountered anyone that seemed threatening.

The police are also very good at protecting San Diego. I've often seen police helicopters flying overhead using PA systems to announce they are looking for a missing child or trying to catch a criminal in that area.

Maybe I should have been more specific. What I meant by "act like they belong" is that they would be unwelcoming toward other transplants and tell them to go back to where they came from, which I think is hypocritical.

It's not that people like it there is what pains me. It's when they think I should be commited to a mental institution for not thinking it's the greatest city in the world that gets to me.

So where is the greatest city in your opinion? (just curious) because Seattle certainly has worse traffic and rude peope.

Who's they? Because I can promise you plenty of us aren't losing sleep because you don't think it's America's Finest City. Seriously, your entitled to your own opinion. Everyone has different tastes, but excuse many of us for thinking it's truly paradise here, it's just how a lot of us feel and if you don't feel the same way that is perfectly fine, to each his or her own.

Well, Seattle is certainly one of my favorite cities in the United States. However I don't have a single city that I would consider the greatest in the world, since there are a handfull of cities that are all great in their own way. Right now, Tokyo is a city that has really been impressing and amazing me, and I'm glad I live right outside of it. The technology, bright city lights, architecture, variety of neighborhoods, and friendliness of the people makes Tokyo a favorite. I also love Atlanta, since I grew up there and has sentimental value. I know it has its flaws, but it has a lot of good qualities as well. It's not one giant ghetto like people make it out to be, like Detroit. Atlanta just has certain areas to avoid that can be extreme, but it also has a lot of nice neighborhoods. NYC, L.A., and Chicago are also nice and impressive cities to visit, but I'm not sure if I want to live in them. Places where I've considered retiring are Portland, OR or Denver.

Please don't let a few overzealous San Diegans leave a bad taste in your mouth for all of the time that you lived here. I really find it hard to believe that you dislike SD that much. If that were the case, why did you stay here for 10 years and not leave sooner? As if some Seattlites, Atlantans, NYers, Chicagoans, etc, don't think they live the in greatest city on earth? C'mon, you know they are out there, too.

I usually ignore negative posts about SD because I respect everyone's opinion, but when I read in another thread that hearing "San Diego" makes your stomach cringe because you think it sounds ugly, I just had to call you on it.

You're obviously on a mission to jab at SD wherever you can, so if that's your thing, then so be it.
