My husband and I will be moving to SD this june from Tampa, FL. He works for a cycling clothing company and they want him close to the office, so off we go. I"m an occupational therapist (so I"m portable) but boy are CA rules strict and obnoxious about licensure and practicing.

I'm looking into San Diego for my "big move" because I fell in love with the city the first time I was there. Ever since then I have had this "need" to go and live there or at least try it out. I can't even explain what it is exactly I just know I'm really drawn to the city.
I'm here in L.A. which is the city I was born and raised in but I need to try SD. |

We will be moving from DC. We wanted warmer weather without it getting too hot, being closer to the beach, a more laid back lifestyle and we LOVE LOVE LOVE being outdoors. When we visited for the first time many years ago, we fell in love. SD just feels like home to us.

Honestly, I'm looking for SUN! I visited San Diego a few months ago and fell in love! The weather is beautiful, you can enjoy outdoor activities year round, people seem to be friendly or just as friendly as people here in Seattle. San Diego is close to Seattle which is perfect so I can visit my family as frequently as I need to. There's a Starbucks on pretty much every corner so what isn't there to enjoy?!

I will moving from Buffalo, NY to San Diego... many reasons but mainly I have the opportunity to move ANYWHERE
basically because I have no obligations (no husband, kids, etc..) and a profession that I can find a job with pretty easily. I lived in Dallas recently and really liked it, but just want to get away from being so land locked! I love the outdoors and San Diego seems to have it all, in addition to amazing climate. After living in a warmer climate in Dallas it made me realize how much the weather can affect your quality of life...sad to say but the weather here in Buffalo can be prohibiting to getting out and doing things. Its tough to get up off your couch when its 20 degrees outside and you have to trudge through the snow just to get to the bar to grab a drink with some friends! From what I hear, San Diego sounds great! Again any advice on neighborhoods with lots to do for 20 and 30 somethings would be appreciated!!! |

Lori, welcome
Check out Hillcrest, North Park ( both artsy, funky, full of people your age) East Village & Little Italy downtown. Pacific Beach is a little more college kids , but it has shops, restaurants, gyms, Trader Joe's, and of course the beach nearby. |

I'm also checking in from Washington, DC.
My wife and I are newlyweds and just feel like we need to set out on our own. We chose SD because I promised my wife we'd try moving to California some day, but I am not a fan of SF or LA. Looking forward to: Awesome climate, great outdoors activities, laid-back atmosphere, access to the beach or the mountains, and (coming from DC) we actually expect cheaper rent and less traffic! What we won't miss in DC: Obscene traffic, pathetic local government, $600,000 old rowhouses in the ghetto, and the people: a volatile mix of ex fratboy d-bags, self-righteous save-the-world do-gooders, and straight anti-social ghetto. What I'll have trouble with: Being out of work (I'm a marketing copywriter, she's in interior design. I'd like to have one job offer or at least some interviews set up before we head west, but it's really tough). What I'll REALLY have trouble with: Football at 10:00 AM! How the heck do y'all pull that off? No time to shake the occasional sunday hangover and get some coffee in me before kickoff. |
