New start in a nice climate and area for our family of four! We currently live in Sierra Vista, Arizona! We are tired of the poor job market here, the horriable heat, and a town that just doesn't offer much of anything! We have no real activities around here, even to get to good resturants we have to travel to tucson (about an hour drive). Plus we have family in california!

there's numerous reasons for me...first of all ive just about ALWAYS been in love with california as a whole-- whether its the lifestyle, weather,or attractions/celebrities l0l ive always loved cali! i first visited back in summer of 'O4 and i fell in love even more
i really didnt even go anywhere, but a mall and Mission beach in SD! all that mattered was the fact that i was in cali!! i love the way californians live and of course THE BEACH ;D and on top of it all im star struck...i love the fact that californians live among a majority of the biggest celebs, they could walk down a street and happen to brush arms with any one celeb at anytime thats good stuff. =] Oh! and im also an aspiring model ; )
btw im coming from Illinois babeh!

I plan on moving to SD after college because of the weather...and Im from RI and I do not want to be a rhode islander for the rest of my life! I heard people are much friendlier and California is an overall beautiful state.

Moving from Oakland to somewhere else. SD is on my short list of possibilities. Mainly I'm looking for more sun. I don't really care whether it's hot or cold as long as it's sunny and close to the ocean. 20 years of Fog and perpetual gloom is getting on my nerves. I actually like the SF Bay Area in many ways. Summer is great. Not too hot and plenty of sunshine but the other nine months of gloom is a bit much. I tore my jacket and had to go buy buy a new one and the fact that I was buying a new jacket in June out of necessity sort of rubs me the wrong way. If I were buying at a winter discount clearance sale, it would be different but the fact is that it's June and I need a jacket for the chill morning fog that won't go away till noon. I'm originally from the Gulf Coast of Texas and this perpetual late-winter weather is getting on my last nerve.
I spent a winter in Minnesota with months of sub-zero temps but lots of sunshine and it was a lot more cheery than daily gloom. I'll probably end up moving either to Florida or back to Texas but San Diego is certainly in my top 5 list. I want to live in a place were the sun wakes up at the same time or earlier than I do. The sun here is a drunk that can't drag itself out of bed till noon.

Native Now!
Hi,
I have been reading on here all the people that are so excited to move to San Diego. I have been living here for the last 31 years from Cleveland, Ohio. Visiting San Diego and living here is very very different. San Diego is a beautiful city and the weather is great if you like moderation , cold nights and very little season change. Yes, there are a lot of outdoor activities, lots to do and much diversity. But for me, I have found San Diego to be one of the loneliest places in the world.
Don't get me wrong, people are wonderful and friendly, but acquaintances, not friends. This is a very transient place to live.
I guess for me, there is not a lot of stability here.
My family is still back in Cleveland. I went back last summer and spent a few months there. Economically the city is in bad shape. You could feel the depression there. But, I still had friends that I had since I was 3. I can not say that about San Diego.
Honestly, I am torn between staying here and going back there. I miss close relationships. Yet, I am not blind to the beauty here.
I wish anyone on here great success out here. I do see many people happy and thriving here.
Maybe after all these years I am missing a White Christmas and some turkey with my family.

Hi Kasey,
I saw your post about moving back to NE OH on the Ohio board; I do think that family makes a HUGE difference for many people. I honestly think that you need to live where you feel your heart is; it's as simple as that.
We have a similiar story of moving from NE OH to S. CA (Orange County), but only we DID move back to have children and raise them amongst family. We moved to Orange County, CA in the very early 80's (a year after I graduated from high school), lived there for a few years, everything was great economically, even socially, but still we weren't around family, and we missed that. Now, 24+ years later, I am more than ready to move to a part of the country where the climate is moderate, where there are sunny days, and where there is economic prosperity. When we left CA at the end of 1983, we left warmth, sunshine, and a very healthy economy, and moved back to a VERY depressed economic area (it was SERIOUSLY depressed at that point), and my MIL even wondered why we had done that when things were so bad here (NE OH). In any event, we finished college, had children, and it's time now for another chapter (even though our youngest is ready to enter 1st grade, while our older is finished with college himself). As you said, it is economically depressed, that is not a stretch to say that. NE OH has been economically depressed since the manufacturing base started leaving. Still with that said, if your heart is here, then it's here, no one can tell you otherwise. I guess I'm going back to how you started your post by saying that visiting an area is different then living here. I can certainly understand your longing to have a white Christmas and turkey with your family; that is understandable. I also understand you wanting to be around those that you haven't been around since you were a young child. There is something to be said in having a bond with those you went to school with, grew up with. On the other hand, people grow up, they change, and the depressed economy here has worn on many people. I, myself, being an entrepreneur (also an accountant), want to be around a different mindset and most of my IRL friends actually live in the SD area.
I guess we all change and we all have to live in a place that is congruent with each of us. I hope that you end up in a place that is dear to you, where you find joy. Wishing you the best.

Do I need to make six figures to live there?
I visisted the city in 2001 and fell in love with it. I forgot how much I liked it until I visited again last summer for a job interview that did not pan out. I am from Michigan and lets just say the pay for jobs, and houseing is incredibly less than Californi. In my career field, 60K a year is almost max. Can I have a happy life in San Diego on that kind of salary? I grew up in the hood and would hate to move to sunny California just to move back to the hood because thats all I can afford. If anyone relocted there please let me know what you think.
