Well...I'm not thinking about moving to SD, I'm in the Marines and will be moving from Virginia in about 6 weeks. I'm originally from Minnesota and have visited San Diego once before. Loved it. I'm trying to find a place to live, preferably in San Clemente or Dana Point. Any suggestions of where I can start looking?

Orange county, because San Clemente and Dana Point aren't in San Diego :-)

We are moving from Omaha, Nebraska. I've been here 28 years, and my fiance' is from the west coast. We love outdoor activities and are tired of freezing 8 mos out of the year! I've been waterskiing since I was 8 and I'm in search of a longer season! I'm a speech therapist and he is a physical therapist, so we are hoping to be able to afford something decent. Unsure of the best areas to consider, as realtors will tell you what they want you to know to sell a house.

My husband and I are moving to San Diego from Boston. We've lived here for going on 7 years and during this time, 6 different neighborhoods. We suddenly realized that no matter where we live, we are never happy so it must not be the City for us. The summers now are too short and it's too stressful to have to 'pack it all in' in a few short weeks. The beach season is shortened by green backs (the biting flies that swarm all the beaches from mid july to mid aug), the sand is hot as hell, the water is too cold to even put my toes in!!!, there is more rain than anything else, and the winters are cold and miserable. This is a 'I must make the most money possible' kind of town where everyone seems downright angry and uptight and stressed out. We're looking for a big change. We visted San Diego in Oct of 2006 and fell in love. We were sad to leave.
Unfortunately, we both love our jobs and are making quite a bit of money in Beantown. But that's not enough for us. So we're quitting our jobs, selling our condo and all of its contents in the Spring (hopefully the market will be better then and we'll make some money on the place to live on once we get out to SD until we find jobs) and we're driving our mini to Cali filled with just the essentials.
75 and sunny here we come!!! We're thinking East Village because we have a passion for the arts. How are the rents there?!

The reason we would like to move to SD is because we have been there twice on our vacations out west to visit my sister , she lives in Porter Ranch I think is south of L.A but anyway both times we had to visit SD and we just love the area. Our last visit june 2008 we had our youngest daughter with us I decided to get a hold of a photogragher in SD and had her senior pictures done in Balboa Park I'll post everyones favorite if I can
we just love it there , plus she off to college next year then its just the two of us

We're moving to the California coast in the summer. It looks like San Diego is the closest to suiting both of our needs and that is probably where we'll end up, but we're doing the roadtrip thing up the coast from San Diego to San Francisco later this month to check out a bunch of areas (can't wait!!), so we should know for sure after that.
We're in our early 20's and have lived in Massachusetts our whole lives. I was born near the cape and spent most of my childhood there, then moved with my family to the Boston area, then went to college in western mass (the poverty valley) and I've now lived there for the past 6 years. I love Massachusetts and there are many things I will miss about it, but I've been looking for a change in environment for YEARS now. It's time to move on. We want to experience something new and we both despise the weather here, especially the long winters. The past few years there have only been two seasons here (thank you, global warming): the rainy season and the snowy season. I'm so tired of it. I'm an outdoor person and I'm deathly sick of being stuck inside all the time. We don't have much going on for us over here at this time in our lives, so it won't hurt to go explore the other side of the country and see what it's like.

Already here...
We just moved here from AZ and presently live downtown. Really cool down here but we miss some green grass and space.
We are looking at Carmel Valley, Del Sur and 4S Ranch areas in north county.
I work in UTC and I really want a somewhat easy commute.
We also play golf and we're looking for a CC to join that won't put us in the poor house.
Would like to keep our housing real at under $1mm for sure and preferrably around $600 - $800k.
Somebody tell me where to look for my dream house!!!

Hey, guys,
I'll be moving to SD from Washington, D.C. within the next month. Why? Because I've wanted to live in San Diego since before I started undergrad. However, going to a school nearby just made more sense financially. Now that I think can afford to move, I'm moving and I'm pretty excited. I'm just a little apprehensive about the job opportunities, though.

You are in the mid to low end of Fancier Areas and the high end of less fancy areas. Right off the top of my head: Bonita, Poway, North Park, Fletcher Hills, Mount Helix, Eastlake, Point Loma, Bay Park, San Carlos, University City, Tierrasanta, Sabre Springs, Rancho Pensaquitos, Scripps Ranch, Carmel Valley, Rancho Del Ray, Mission Hills, parts of Santee, Ocean & Pacific Beach, Talmadge, Del Cerro...whew. Of course, what you want to do is try to find a basis for an area to start from like schools, proximity to work or play and then drive the areas that fit those parameters for yourself both during the day and at night.
