Thanks for pointing that out And yes I see the effects. I heard construction is slowing because of a lack of workers. A couple of our guys left as I guess they were offered more money elsewhere. We are shorthanded!

By the way, the number is for the county of San Diego, not the city.

Here are the numbers for a few other California Counties:

San Francisco: 2.7
Santa Clara 2.9
Orange County 3.2
San Diego 3.6
Los Angeles 4.0
Sacramento 4.2
San Bernardino 4.4
Riverside 4.6
Santa Cruz 5.0
Imperial 20.5

And don't forget, that only counts people who are collecting unemployment. It doesn't include people who've given up looking for work, or people who are underemployed, or people who are working multiple jobs.

Well I am having a rough go at it finding work after losing my job recently. If I knew how to code it would help.

First, what do you want to learn to code? Here's a site that may help to answer that. Then, there are many online tutorials to learn to code - try several, until you find ones that you think are most helpful to you.

Welp, I used work in cloud database stuff before the mass layoff. Been doing market research and coding skills in .net/C# are hot commodity right now with the big push Micro$oft is making with Azure. I checked and this lists the top skills for 2017

The 9 Most In-Demand Programming Languages of 2017 | Coding Dojo Blog

10 hottest tech skills for 2017 | Computerworld

I already know SQL and databases and Linux/UNIX shell scripting so learning perl and .net/C# would be good play for me to land a coding job in San Diego. I have friends who are Microsoft .net devs that make over 120k here.
