What is there to do in one quick weekend in Sept/Oct?

I did not get a chance to go anywhere this summer. So I planning a quick weekend getaway for end of Sept beginning of Oct.

Is there anything going on? I guess I can watch a football . . . . Oh wait never mind LOLZ . Well, then what?

I can watch a college game though.

Is there anything going on in Sept/Oct?

Sept/Oct can be our most beautiful months and mostly all the tourists are gone, so much easier beach access, etc.

Can you still go to the water at that time?

Yes that's part of beginning of the heat wave usually, Santa Ana winds blast the coast.

The water at the beach is great at this time of year. As others have said the weather is nice and tourists are mostly gone. This is when my husband and I do the most paddle boarding.

For other things to do whichever weekend you come, check out the listings on these two sites:

It'll probably still be beach weather. But, since you've already been to San Diego several times, and seem to like like road trips, you might want to do something a little different. Here are two ideas:

Take a road trip to Ramona for a winery tour (see: Ramona Valley Winery Tour)

There are also wineries in Temecula, which is farther north in Riverside County. They're more established, but Ramona is a more scenic drive.

Or, go a little farther up into the mountains and visit Julian and Cuyamaca State Park -- they're both great in the Fall.

Visit Julian California

Rancho Cuyamaca State Park

You could easily do all of these in a single day if you want. If you're hitting the wineries, you probably want to head out on the 8 and start with Cuyamaca in the morning, then Julian, then loop back through Ramona and back to where ever you're staying.

Sunrise Highway in the Laguna Mountains (Sunrise Highway) and Mount Palomar (farther north than the ones I've listed above) are also good driving destinations.

If you like hiking, this will give you some other ideas:
