Anyone planning to check out the partial eclipse today?

The skies are nice and clear where I am (East County), so if it's cloudy by the coast and you feel so inclined, head east. You still have time to get here by 10:23, when the eclipse here will be at its maximum.

Also, in case you can't get away, NASA has a live webcast of the total eclipse on their website, here:

https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/

And, obviously, don't forget to NOT look directly at the eclipse without your safety glasses!

Too cloudy in Point Loma to see it!

If you don't experience "Totality," in my opinion, an eclipse just isn't that exciting. With eclipses, it's pretty much all or nothing.

It was sunny here (south OC). The best thing was seeing all the shadows under the trees turn into little crescent moons!

This. It was cool for about 3 seconds when I looked at it today.

Same here. It looked a little dimmer outside but there was some marine layer too so not sure what to think. Friends in North SD county reported "seeing it" where it didn't seem like much of anything here even when viewed on a sheet of paper.

You noticed that too! That was the big difference I noticed here in east county SD, although the temp did seem to dip just a tiny bit as well (might have been my imagination).

Also, a lot of the dogs in my neighborhood were barking up a storm around 10:30. That's unusual for that time of day, but it could have just been a coincidence.

I did also watch a bit of the totality coverage on TV. It was very interesting to see the images. Must have been cool to experience the totality.

We're on Point Loma and had a totally clear sky after the first half hour so saw it perfectly. I had a pinhole viewer but based on a friend's recommendation, we brought out a sieve for a sievelipse:

The sieve is a great idea. I would never have thought of that, but some friends who live closer to totality put one on their little boy's head like a helmet. Brilliant--it kept him from trying to look up, and they could still see all the circles turn to crescents.
