Interesting, Amazon is expanding here and bringing good, high paying jobs.

107,000 sq ft is a decent amount of space. But I doubt we qualify for HQ #2.

500 employee office space, sounds like a win for SD despite not being the HQ2.

In a way, I'm sort of relieved. While it would have been nice to have all of those new jobs and economic benefits, the flip side would end up being more cars on the road and more competition for housing and other resources.

Los Angeles and Denver are the only West Coast cities left in the race. Texas and Pennsylvania have two cities in the running and Toronto is the only non US city in the running.

Yes couldn't agree more. While the Amazon presence would have been some good news for SD on the whole, the net effect of compounding traffic over several years would not be fun. Its not so much Amazon as the businesses in addition to Amazon that might migrate to the area which would be the issue.

Its not all that bad! We are in good company with the likes of: Rochester and Detroit

Honestly though, did anyone on this thread really believe they were going to move here?

Never could see them being serious about another west coast presence, made no sense. I think they’ll pick a smaller city that can grow with them.

Maybe not getting Amazon's new HQ was a blessing in disguise - at what cost do you need to provide sweetners to a multibillion dollar company that has a rep for tax avoidance?

Interesting article, silverkris. Reading through some of the criteria discussed, it's pretty clear on several levels why SD (and CV) didn't make the cut into the top 10.
