I remember when I was a teenager in the early 1990's we went to San Diego on a family vacation. We went to Sea World and stayed at that Hilton Hotel right next to it.

Friends from out of town always love going over the bridge to Coronado, to the beach there and lunch outside hotel del Coronado. They also really love La Jolla Cove, and having Mexican food w/huge margaritas in Old Town. The Zoo and Sea World are always a hit. If you have little ones (under 10) Legoland is great.

I always bring friends to Balboa Park just to walk around. The architecture and lush gardens are amazing. We like to sit outside on the terrace at the Prado. They have great paella and make a killer mojito!

Out of town guests really like getting a feel for all the beach towns so I usually take them up to Oceanside, then drive down through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Leucadia, Del Mar, La Jolla, and then take La Jolla Shores drive down with the beautiful view of the ocean.

Our relatives from Seattle love to go tidepooling at Cabrillo monument or kayaking on the bay or La Jolla caves.

We had friends visit from PA that wanted to see our casinos. I couldn't understand why, but then again, I'm not a gambler. Apparently they don't have Bingo at their casinos where you can win big.

I would actually recommand against the Tijuana tour given its recent criminal activities. Quite dangerous....

Thanks again for the input, everyone. I'll take my passport w/ me just in case, but it's doubtful we'll go to Mexico.

All right, I'm back from SD! I had a great time there. First of all, the weather was awesome. After putting up w/ 90s here in TX, it was nice to experience 60s everyday and hardly see any rain. As far as what we did, here's a brief list:
- We stayed at the Marriott Marina. Really nice.
- Dinner in Old Town. Lots of Mexican restaurants there. Pretty neat area.
- San Diego Zoo. It's huge, but we covered most of the exhibits in several hours.
- Sea World. It's pretty crowded, but well worth the trip. The killer whales and dolphins rock. Free beer at A-B's Hospitality Center wasn't bad.
- Wild Animal Park. Since we went on Mem. Day, it was pretty crowded. There's some redundancy between this and the zoo.
- Balboa Park. Neat area, but don't waste your time or money w/ Japanese Friendship Garden.
- Coronado Island. We visited Hotel Del Coronado, which looks magnificent. But parking is really steep: $13 for the 1st 2 hours and $10 for each additional hour (max. of $48/day, I believe).
- Gaslamp Quarter. I like this area a lot. Lots of variety of bars and restaurants. Parking is free for 3 hours w/ (free) validation at that outdoor mall near 4th and G Sts.

We bought the 3-in-1 pass for the zoo, WAP, and SW, which costs $109 each, but is well worth it if you plan on doing all 3 activities since it's cheaper than buying them separately and gives you some premium features that an individual ticket may not necessarily give you, such as the skyline ride at the zoo.

Since we stayed at that marina hotel, we walked around Seaport Village, which is pretty neat. But Gaslamp is better (views aside). We didn't get a chance to visit Tijuana or La Jolla. The week flew by! The only downers were prices are high and traffic stinks.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

San Diego is a beautiful city.
