I received this in my email today from Cox:

Important Information Regarding Your Account

Dear ,

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming change to Cox High Speed Internet service in your area related to data usage.

Your Cox High Speed Internet service currently includes a data plan of 1 TB (1,024 GB). Beginning 10/05/2017, if you exceed your monthly data plan we will automatically provide additional blocks of data for $10 per 50 gigabytes (GB), as needed. This will not impact 98% percent of customers, but instead only charges the heaviest Internet users.

To help you get accustomed to this change, you will be provided a grace period for your first two billing cycles after the effective date. You will not be charged if you exceed your data plan during this grace period.

We will attempt to notify you via email and browser alert when you have used 85% and 100% of your monthly data plan.

Anyone else get this?

Sounds like this may just be a marketing ploy to get you to upgrade to the "enhanced" cox service.

I wonder what the legalities are when you sign up for a particular service and the company makes changes to the service. Is there a grandfathering requirement? You might call and ask.

I'll also keep my eyes out to see if we get something like this from cox.

It says only affects 2%. I think everyone got a flyer as I've heard people talk about it on nextdoor.

I did, but I also got a little chart showing my normal usage which is like 10% of that on my highest month, so I decided to ignore it.

I pay $210 as it is. If they hit me for the overage I will give up cable. I hated these guys right from the get go.
