I have some job interviews in the Rancho Bernardo/Poway area and don't want to commute long term from Point Loma. What are some good affordable places to rent a 2bedroom apartment or condo nearby Rancho Bernardo? I cannot buy real estate due to being out of work for some time and lenders want 2 years at job plus I need to make sure the new job is stable.

I don't know about cheapest, but look at parts of RB and Poway themselves, as well as Rancho Penasquitos. Maybe also Mira Mesa (but don't go too far west along Mira Mesa since you'll want to take I-15 to get to RB.

Probably avoid Escondido and Ramona since those commutes wouldn't be pretty.

I've heard Ramona to 4s is not bad and to RB or Poway is closer than 4s, and parts of Escondido are next to RB so not sure why that would be so bad.

Anything that requires morning rush hour travel on southbound I-15 or southbound Hwy 67 is going to be a p.i.t.a. of a commute.

Escondido won't be too bad. RB isn't that expensive. Mira Mesa isn't cheap and isn't really very nice.

Thanks! I have two job interviews scheduled for companies located in the Mira Mesa and Rancho Bernardo areas so will look if all goes well. Houses are HELLA EXPENSIVE to buy now though, think 600k plus is cheapest I see in such a large area for a 3-4 bedroom home so renting is viable option.

I'd suggest Mira Mesa. I-15 morning commutes northbound to Rancho Bernardo are friendlier than the opposite southbound commutes. The same can be said in the afternoon (after 4pm) commutes, but the opposite (southbound is easier in the afternoon).

Thanks any suggestions for renting a 2 bedroom condo or townhome in the area that won't cost a small fortune in rent? I have a 1 bedroom right now but need more room and to be closer to the job if the interviews close well for me. Cannot buy because I was out of work for a while and need to build up 2-3 years of work history before any bank will give me a loan.

for Mira Mesa.
Escondido is another choice but it doesn't have all the amenities that Mira Mesa has but it's cheaper.
if you can avoid the rush hour then Vista or even Oceanside

Mira Mesa probably would be the best bet. Open to ideas on where to look for places to rent.
