Hello,

My husband and I are moving to SD with our 11 years old son who is severely affected by autism!
Both of us has the opportunity to work from home so we are flexible what area to live in san Diego county. Which area is offering the best program for autism?

My son needs lots of services specially good speech therapy . Right now, He is in school from 8:30 to 4:30 and recieving intensive service(ABA, PT, OT, Speech, RDI, ...). I am looking for something similar.

Our budget is about 1000,000 for a house. I really appreciate any recommendations/ suggestions.

Thank you,
L

I think your best bet would be to contact people in San Diego County who have the same concerns as you. One place to start might be here: https://www.autismsocietysandiego.org/our-programs.html

Talk to members about programs with which they're familiar at school districts, visit classes, and interview teachers and/or special education directors. Generally speaking, the districts with more money tend to have better funded programs, which usually (but not always) translates into better services.

Great advice. Someone asked a similar question on this forum a few years back. Later they came back and said the Autism Society of SD was a real big help.

Here are some links for you:

San Diego Regional Center | Serving People with Developmental Disabilities

We've been very happy with the special services within the Vista Unified School District so far. Many people on this board bad mouth Vista but there are many very nice properties in the Vista Foothills area in your price range. Check out the 92084 zip code on Zillow.

I'd have to ask my wife, but when she moved here this was a huge part of her decisionmaking process. I seem to remember her mentioning Vista USD as having a really good program, but she wound up in Oceanside. She isn't 100% happy with the support and programs for autism, but is anyone ever going to be?
