Yes. Live aboard is an additional $150.00 per month. BUT... Water, wifi and trash are included (free). Slip comes with a private swimming pool, jacuzzi, restrooms, showers. Deli/Grocery numerous restaurants. Gated and guarded. Free parking.

We are planning on living on a boat full time. Right now, our boat is 30 feet and sleeps 4 comfortably, but we have an older 130 pound Male Shepherd who would take up a lot of room on the boat. Plus as it's a sailboat, it would be difficult for him to get into the cabin.

Although, there are no pet restrictions in the Marina. I have seen Saint Bernards there (though on larger vessels).
Do you use the pump out boat service? Sounds like a great deal ya got there.

We use both Pump Out (they come to your boat and pump out waste for $25.00 a visit) and we motor over to the free pump out station as well. Usually we motor over to the pump out station. However if there is a heavy wind, or, if my husband is not there, we will call the mobile pump out.

Electricity runs us $17.00 a month at the highest.

Our Marina location is PRIME. Truly the best San Diego has to offer, IF you like boats :-)

Restaurants, concerts, shopping, Gaslamp District, Balboa Park, etc. all within about 10 minutes or less.

Sometimes you have to "think outside the box".

I have an office on the boat, a full working kitchen and can live on her in total comfort. Just, not a large house! The house my husband and I live in- is 2,700. square feet. That's too much house for me.

With just the two of us, I now prefer being on the water, on the boat. JMHO

Sorry for the off topic. I will go to just private messages for this conversation. Thank You, Sincerely

Typically the schools aren't as good. There are still families living there of course, but overall it's more single and DINK oriented than the other places that have been suggested. I would consider Carlsbad as well.

Keep in mind most landlords are going to want provable gross monthly income 3-4x the rent. If your wife's income keeps the budget afloat, I'd be real tempted to ignore your work situation, pick the place that works best for schools and you guys overall, and then focus on your finding work in a reasonable radius from home.

Besides the schools and lack of families mentioned above, it’s not very kid friendly either. Although it’s come along way in the last 20 years, it’s still rough around the edges. My wife lived there as recently as 2015, and I’d cross paths with shady characters, and crazy homeless folk often. This wasn’t just in their downtown area either, but in the more residential area several blocks away. You would never let your kid play out in the street, or even ride their bike around the neighborhood for that matter, without fear of getting hit by a car. All the other areas mentioned you’ll have very little to zero of this.

We still go there often enough to a few of her favorite restaurants, and I can say not much has changed the last few years, if anything the homeless population has gotten worse.

This is helpful, thanks!
