So if I get job in Rancho Bernardo, no way I want to commute everyday from Point Loma where I live now.

What are some good affordable places near Rancho Bernardo that won't kill me with a nasty commute for a 2 bedroom apartment in safe area that won't cost 2k a month?

Rancho Penasquitos. Parts of Escondido, but then you're getting involved in rush hour traffic unless you can work altered hours. Maybe Poway, but that'll be a bit farther to commute.

ooooh, that's hard. Most rentals in and around that area start at 1900.00 and go up from there. You can find studios for about 1700.00 but that doesn't get 2 bedrooms for you. Maybe take a look further out and get close to a train line? I wish it was an easier fix for you but good luck!

Rancho Penasquitos and Poway will almost certainly have 2 bedroom appts in your price range. I know for a fact that 2-bedrooms in my condo complex are going for around $1700. Whether you can find one available is a question I can't answer.

I just looked at Craigslist and the following apartment came up at $1,875.00.

https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/...602819714.html

This was the only one that came up for me in Rancho Bernardo and the ad is 15 days old. When I changed the range to $2K more choices came up.

Esco and Mira Mesa.

I can’t imagine RP 2 bedroom would be under 2K

I'm not sure anything will be available....you can try Oak Hill Apartments in Escondido, but they're usually booked. Same with the low rent places in Poway. You could also live in Mira Mesa and commute to Rancho Bernardo. If you're 55+ you might be able to find a good deal in RB. 7 Oaks or Oaks North communities.
