No, there were plenty of longboarders in the water. Saw quite a few of the Costco beginner boards but you gotta start somewhere, right? I was just bodysurfing. Was at Mission yesterday and waves were decent.

yeah, those boards din't help any, but everyone has to start somewhere. it's just too bad people don't start like I did with a good teacher and learning etiquette first. That's why I surf out of the way places, like the cliffs in Carlsbad. Most won't brave those because of the walk, so it has much less fewer people in the water, and the ones that are there are usually pretty respectful.

Was at Law Street Beach today - - 78 degree water temperature. Average temperature on this date: 68 degrees. Yeah, it feels good, but that's distressing as well.

I wonder if the folks back in 1931 were distressed too when it was 10 degrees warmer than usual.

I can imagine it was pretty miserable for everyone. I bet the SD river was full of people. I'm not sure if any other source was available besides the ocean. But then, most people lived near the shore then.

Was at Torrey Pines Monday evening and the Cove yesterday. Water is still crazy warm, will swim/bodysurf/snorkel almost every day until it's not

Did it get this warm last summer? How long did the water stay warm until it got to "winter" temps?

Well, given that this year's temps are all time records, no, it wasn't this warm last year or any year every before, but it did get above 70 at least at some point. However, last year actually had fairly cool water temps into July and only a late, short bump. This year is off the charts.

Yeah it was cold last summer. 2015 was the last year it stayed warm(er) into the late fall, it was also El Niño.
