awww, thanks mewzikguy! Attitude is everything, isn't it?!
I'm not a very churchey girl, but I may check out a Unitarian or something agnostic-friendly. It does help! I'm lucky to have an extraordinarily cute and friendly labradoodle who introduces himself to everyone too. He's making the relocation much easier. I can't wait till his first visit to Dog Beach! :-)

Lereca will become famous soon enough
I agree with FunkyMonk, my sister moved to San Diego with her husband and kids 13 years ago. He got a big fat job in the medical technology field. They made oodles of money and had to let everyone know about it at every minute. It was always look at my new car, ring, furniture, etc. We are going on vacation here, their and everywhere. My friends are lawyers, doctors, presidents of companies. We have our wine club, botoxclub, fake person club. We only eat sushi, and drink wine till we all pass out. We are the most self absorbed, materialistic people on the plant! They were once normal people, when they lived in MN.

It's sad that happened Lereca, but not everyone loses sight of where they're from.

Smile Just moved back to Phoenix from Carlsbad

I just moved back here from Carlsbad. I was there for 9 months and lived 3 minutes from the beach in a 50's apartment. I loved the beach...it was hard for me to work because I just wanted to play. I'm in Real Estate and thought the market would be better there. Prices have definitely come down, but with taxes and other high costs of living there AND the cost of living here in Phoenix area, I decided to return here. I also looked for other jobs in SD and without success. If anyone is interested in leaving SD for sunshine and about a third the cost of SD, post and I'll answer your questions about living here.

In my opinion this is a huge problem with SOME transplants that move to California, they let the reputation and "status" of this state go to their head. The media obviously glorifies CA and many transplants think they are so "cool" or special just b/c they live in CA now and it's very annoying to many natives and other normal transplants that aren't like that.

Also San Diego is hardly the only place that will experience that type of BS. You think some people who move to NYC, Washington DC, ect.... for big paying jobs and can now live the "high life" in a popular city don't get the same way??

Yep...and then when THOSE transplants move to another state because they can't afford California any more, they want to complain about how such and such state isn't like California! Morons!

Sorry for those whose feelings might have been hurt by the monk's comments about SD and its whick whick whack a$$ people, but honesty permits not everyone agreeing to one fact or another in perfect harmony. Not all people in SD are whack, of course! Truth be told, being from Northern Cali, and having been around the world to visit first and third world nations--and everything in-between--I can sadly say that some of the worst and most perverse people I have ever met anywhere reside in SF!.. No joke. But as the people in SF are overall cool and down-to-earth, they fare better than SDiegans in that they are not as snobbish and materialistic--and shallow.
Anyone here ever hear how there was an uproar by SDiegans over naming a part of a downtown area after slain civil rights leader and Nobel peace prize winner Dr Martin Luther King Jr? And after achieving that objective, how they appeased the blacks by going ahead to name some ghetto corner after MLK instead?.. No? You didn't hear about that, or you don't want to acknowledge it?
My friend in NorCal related to me a time when going into an ice cream parlor in SD to ask for directions, and he being Asian got a I can't understand you response, despite that he spoke perfect English. And recently, my GF, also Asian, was treated like something else altogether when she was asking people to direct her to a payphone b/c she left her cell at home in SF (most people in SF, and even Oaktown believe it or not, would just let you use their cell phone; it just sucks that that kind of camaraderie doesn't much exist in SD).
And I say here what these folks and many other SFranciscans would say about SD, the city's nice, but not so much the closed minded people. (And even if there weren't a people issue, there most definitely is a job and cost of living disparity--at least in NorCal our pay is commensurate to the high cost of living.)

Being that you've traveled extensively, you are cognizant of the fact that anywhere you go you will find people who are rude, obnoxious, distasteful, etc. But, then, you will also find people in the very same place who would give you the shirts off their backs. I don't think the location is the issue, merely the people we encounter, whether native San Diegan or from Nebraska or South Dakota! *lol*

BTW...when can I expect my $100?

Exactly!

...and just about every major city (and smaller ones too) in the US has an MLK dedicated parkway, park, city corner, etc...that came to be via a lot of heated debate. So, again San Diego doesn't have a monopoly on that kind of stupidness. Sorry about your Asian friends' experiences but as an Asian I've yet to experience discrimination b/c of my ethnicity.

As has been stated ad nauseum, no matter where you go in the US you will find a certain degree of negative traits in people - it's just human nature.
