My husband and I are considering a move to Eastlake/Otay Ranch/Bonita area in the next year or so (we live in the Del Cerro section of SD right now). One of our kids will be starting elementary school when we move, but the other will still need a good pre-K program. Anybody have any recommendations for good preschool/pre-K programs in that area? Thanks!

I saw you post looking for a Preschool and was wondering if you ever found one. I am also looking in that area, (Eastlake). I have heard very good things about Eastlake Community Church's program. I found it to be very pricey though. Would you let me know if you find out of any other places. Thanks a bunch!

Most people in Eastlake put their kids in the Eastlake Community Church Preschool which is very good. It is pricey but you can choose M-W-F from 9am to noon rather than full-time if you are just trying to socialize your child. I did this and it was a wonderful program.
Others like the United Methodist Preschool on East H. Street accross the street from the YMCA. |

I'm actually doing the same sort of research for my 2 1/2 year old. We will be living in Eastlake by the end of May (from the PB area).
I visited a couple of the daycares in the area, La Petit, Kindercare, and First United Methodist (on H Street). To tell you the truth, I was not impressed at all with the first two, First United definitely was the best of the three but they only take 3 year olds and it seems like there's a pretty lengthy list already. I know my in-laws attend Eastlake Church, and we've gone with them a small handful of times and have an incredible children's center set up and our daughter always has a blast there when we drop her off during the service. As it turns out, my mother-in-law along with my sister-in-law have decided to open up thier own in-home daycare, so my daughter will be going there. Eventually hoping to get her into one of the nearby Montessori academies (a lot of them don't admit until 3+) or private school pre-k programs. If you're at all interested in a home daycare environment, I can pass on my MIL's information (hopefully that's not breaking any of the forum rules). She is located in the Eastlake Vistas. |

Try searching craigslist, for more affordable preschools or even homebased preschools.

I've found Preschool ratings and Preschool reviews: The Savvy Source for Parents to be very helpful. You can research preschools nationwide. It lists great info on various schools. check it out
clink on the blue line and it goes right to the site. |

I do NOT recommend Otay Ranch Montessori. I tried sending emails to the owner and her grammer is totally off. The owner is rude. I drove by the facility and I saw that it was only 1 small room! It has no staff, no REAL montessori teachers, no REAL curriculum. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!! It's a joke of a "school".
I highly recommend a montessori school. Be careful and do your reserch. In order to tell if a school is really a montessori school here are some helpful guidlines i took from reading a montessori system novel: 1. teachers MUST have montessori credentials (ask for them!!! when touring schools) 2. school must be afiliated with AMI (american montessori international) 3. owner/director must be a MONTESSORI teacher with experience 4. be sure that if it is in a home setting, it is not only 1 room! thats just crazy! i do not know how the city apporved this facility 5. ask for outside recommendations! |
