The "right" to own a home where you choose ? Not happening in today's America. It's more like " lucky you " you have a roof over your head and a health insurance card.

People with money jump to the front of the line. Otherwise work hard or SUFFER.

Brazil 2.0 America 3rd world.

I am surprised people are not figuring this out quite yet.

America has outsourced to the extent that prized real estate is one of the few commodities we have left....and it's all for sale to the *highest bidder. American or not it doesn't matter anymore.

Property Taxes are going to be in and around $4000 a Year thats $2000 every Feb/Dec(Even higher if you have some Crazy a$$ Bond)
That adds $330 every month and if you have PMI that can take you up to, and even over 3000k a month mortgage give or take. Then add in the cost of living here and its just not worth it in IMO.
I had no idea interest rates were at 5% now. That would bring it up to $3k a month, I stand corrected. It’s a stretch but still doable for a RN, assuming you’re with a better paying organization and don’t have a lot of debt. I’m not recommending it though.

It’s been for years you need 2 incomes to afford a house in California. One of my kid today can afford to buy a home in the Bay Area, it may not be the home she wants but it’s a home. Evidence by her coworker who bought one recently, about $900k range. Parents helped with down payment though.

No guarantees in popular areas that you can save fast enough to not be driven out by price increases. Right now may not be bad as prices seem to be leveling a bit and may stay that way for a while (maybe slight dip), but eventually they will rise again.
Thanks. I’m getting over it. Disappointing but ...

Yea, the city needs the common people to function, so I was wondering....I guess all these people live in crappy apartments? I don't know. I would expect it to more more expensive of course, but I just can't comprehend how even with 2 good incomes people are making it... Oh well, over it pretty much.

Sadly, reality dictates that San Diego is "for" those who can afford to live here, and that it is not for everyone else.

FWIW, we can afford to live here, but are giving up... we're trading the weather for a much bigger / nicer house, lower cost of living, and freedom from the insane tsunami of taxes and regulations coming out of Sacramento. If all of that, and constant pressure on your wallet and budget, is worth living near the ocean; then more power to you.
Nah, not worth it. I love it, but I want to live where common people are my neighbors if we own a home...not just Drs and lawyers or whoever is affording these places. Giving it up... Where are you going?

Nothing! No down payment, but my husband is a veteran and gets a VA loan. So yea...I'm giving up on San Diego/Encinitas. I'll visit a few more times while we're here in La Quinta and I'm outta here next year probably.

Typical is two incomes... RN and say Public Safety such a Police or Fire.

For some reason we have several under 30 nurses married to police or fire and they have all bought homes in the last 3 years...

The benefits are great... money is good with lots of potential for overtime.

My one single RN new home owner did it all on her own... she is 30 and decided to buy in Santa Clara... expensive to say the least...

She did it by working to RN jobs... one was three 12 hour shifts and then a second job Friday, Saturday and Sunday at another hospital... she had only Monday's off.

200k income working all the time... now that she has settleled her plan is only one more year and then will cut back to one job...
Oh my lord. I could never work 2 jobs. I want to have a life and enjoy my kids. Thanks for the info!!
