Default Car insurance companies

Besides Allstate, what are other car insurance companies in SD? We are moving in Oct and will need to find a new insurance company.

We use an agent that finds you the best rates and have been really happy with them and you can use them to find homeowners/renters insurance too. They have even found reductions for reasons such as the type of career you have. Direct Message me if you want the name of the agency - they are in Ranch Bernardo.

I love Amica. They're not always the cheapest, but their customer service is excellent. They're always at the top of the list in studies done by Consumer Reports and J.D. Powers and Associates.

Arrow Wawanesa

Wawanesa is an excellent car insurance company. I had it for years before moving to AZ - they don't cover states other than Oregon and CA. They are a Canadian company.

They have really good rates.

We now have GEICO, and they are good as well.

Good Luck!

I was going to recommend Wawanesa but you beat me to it.

I agree with Jaded, their rates are as good as any that I've seen. They only insure really good drivers though, and that's how they keep their rates low. So as long as you don't have a lot of tickets or accidents you can get a great policy with Wawanesa.

I recommend State Farm Insurance.

They are a huge nationwide company with lots of offices located all over San Diego. Probably more than any other insurance company.

Their rates are very good as well. They offer discounts if you carry more than one type of insurance with them (ex: renters + auto).

They've been in business for decades.

I don't know their rates in San Diego but I can tell you for sure in New Jersey their rates are very high.

Your insurance rate depends on many different factors, so you really can't say that if your rate is high, it will also be true of someone else.

Factors include:

1. Driving record (previous accidents, tickets, etc)
2. Age
3. Sex
4. Marital status
5. How often you use your car (miles per week)
6. Where you live
7. Length of time with your insurance provider
8. Make/model/age of vehicle

My rate in San Diego is extremely low, and it was also low when I lived on the east coast. I am actually paying slightly less in San Diego.

I would recommend getting a quote from State Farm to see how it compares to whatever other companies you are thinking about.

Adding to RD's list, don't forget your credit record. If your credit score is low, they WILL charge you more for your insurance, regardless of your driving record. Speeding tickets can wipe you out too - just one or two will push your rates up for a minimum of 2 years.

Speaking from experience, i'm 41, female, NO accidents on my record, but 2 speeding tickets and some credit damage and the rates shoot up. Now that it's been a few years, I'm hoping for better rates soon.

I am just going on rates they quoted me compaired to my current insurance. I have new jersey manufacturers insurance and its hard to get them but if you can get in they are the best rates in NJ. But when I move to San Diego I will need a new company.
