the entrance to santa fe hills is only a mile at most from the freeway exit. google maps says 0.7 miles.

I stand corrected I don't usually use the freeway to get there... preferring to use the back roads to visit my friends, coming from the San Elijo/CSUSM area.

vice versa. Paloma is an elementary school in Santa Fe Hills. Great school IMHO. Went there for a year, but was forced to change schools due to a failed attempt to transfer. Paloma has won the "distinguished school award 3 times in the last 12 years (basically it has won every eligible year because you can only win every 4 years). This year Paloma was one of 11 schools in the county to win the Academic Achievement Award. It's also the highest performing school in San Diego north of the 78 freeway.

The feeder middle school is not that great though....you can always transfer to San Elijo, Woodland Park, Madison, or High Tech though...
