Looks like we're back in the May-gray-in-late-July phase. May gray on opening day? Strange.

I could do without the eddy, but I see the water temps are starting to creep up. Last year at this time, it was already in the low 70's!

You should be a weatherman! Current temps as of 3:00pm today. Gotta love our microclimates!
The temperatures in Mira Mesa really vary widely. If you're on the west side of Mira Mesa then you get that breeze right up Sorrento Valley from the ocean and it can be a good ten degrees cooler then if you're on the east side of Mira Mesa near the 15. Also you'll often see high temperatures reported from Miramar Air Station but, as a friend told me, that's because their weather station (which records wind, temperature, humidity, viability, etc...) is right on the flight line tarmac of the runways. That means you get a big urban heat island effect due to the weather station being surrounded by all that hot tarmac on the flight line (you also get the hot exhaust from all those jet engines on that busy airfield). Go away from the runway into the less developed parts of the base and suddenly it gets much cooler.

This sucks, I can't believe we are back in this pattern again. I thought after last week the pattern had finally broken and we would at least stay in the 70's. There has maybe been a total of 5 or 6 days with temps at or above normal in the past 3 months. All the forecasts show it staying in the 60's too. This is by far the worst summer ever, I can't stand this crap anymore. I need to go to Hawaii, haha.

It's not that bad. I think it feels good because it's not cold and it's not hot. the breeze feels great and we should enjoy this weather because as we all know, it doesn't happen much!

I really don't care whether or not people INLAND enjoy this weather but here along the coast it sucks beyond belief and I hate it. THREE fricken months of below normal temperatures! There have been a lot fewer people at the beach, the atmosphere sucks and I'm sure businesses are hurting. And San Diego spends 6 months out of the year with average highs in the mid to upper 60's, so we do get these temps quite often actually and that is why I am so sick of it, I cannot take any more days in the 60's. It's SUMMER and beach season, it's supposed to be warm.

I was downtown today and yesterday and I know what you are talking about. Yes, it's a below average summer but let's just suck it up? It's better than living in the south where it's 110+ with 75% humidity or Arizona where it's over 100 and baking hot most of the year. Or the north where it's cold and snowy 6 months of the year. I am damn grateful I don't have to put up with the weather those areas have so really this is just something people need to suck up. NorCal and Pacific northwest are worse. they get rain, fog etc a lot more than we ever do. Our weather is mild compared to every where else so people should just be happy with what they have

and just an FYI, the inland areas have had this weather lately too.

I'm a weather buff and always pay close attention to it. I LOVE summer in San Diego so much, it's my favorite time of year here, and it's the only time of year the water is warm enough to get in w/o a wetsuit, so when it's like this for an extended period of time I get pissed and rant about it online, haha. And that is what this thread is for, to discuss (aka "rant" for me) about our local weather. And yes I know other places have much worse weather than here but that's normal for them, so I usually never bother comparing our weather to elsewhere. Inland areas have been below normal but they are still sunny and in the 70's while the coast is socked in and in the 60's.

This is the year without a summer. I agree, suck it up! Unless those water temperatures warm up, it looks like it is going to stay like this all summer until we get our fall santa anas. I too, love san diego's summer because it is unique. We do get some summer humidity despite what people back east think. And this year we have none, in fact its not even normal. So what. Remember July 2006 when water temperatures reached 80? Yeah, so we have our records. That was one of our warmest summers on record and if I'm not mistaken, this could very well be the coolest summer on record. Weather and climate is like this. Just think of it this way, this year is an extention of Norcal's summer into SoCal. It is very rare for this to happen, but this is exactly whats happening this year (although not quite, our ocean temps are still 7-8 degrees warmer than the central coast, and so our coastal air temps are still warmer).
