Drive a little ways north to the slot canyons. It was once a hidden little gem in the area but still interesting and fun.

My main goal is a 5 miler hike covering the wind caves, west butte, and slot loop.
I'm asking if anything to take in on the nearby east shore of Salton?

Salvation Mountain is just east of Niland. I haven't been out there in quite awhile but it's a unique place.

Salvation Mountain - Official Website - Niland, California

You want info on the East shore, or West shore?

East, you have Bombay Beach, and the "Banana Museum." Also, the Lowest Bar/Tavern in the US. Chuckwalla Mountains Wilderness Area.

North shore, you have The Painted Canyon.

West, you have the "Badlands." (Watch out for Jeepers!)

If you find yourself in downtown Borrego, try Carlee's for food. (I like their French Dip.) Gotta order their home made potato chips early tho.

Great day out summitting Borrego mountain and trekking across the west butte, windy caves, and crowded slots. Then took in the Salton Sea western shore towns of Salton City and Desert Shores; maybe the next civil war will start there, which you violence anti-democracy fan boys fantasize to compensate for your deficiencies and whiney b*tchy grievances

LOL.

Only you could start out describing what sounds like a great day and end it in a political diatribe.

Right?

Can't even turn it off for a minute.

Oh well, sounded like a fun time. Last few times I was out that way there was just too many yahoos around. Used to be able to have a lot of those spots in the desert to yourself if you planned it right.
