Living in San Diego
My brother is moving to San Diego in mid-Spetember. What is a nice, yet affordable area to rent an apartment. 1 bedroom. His work is in Campo, near the border, so the commute is a factor. He wants a slightly upscale, safe, not run-down area. Thanks a lot!

We always have to ask you guys because your questions are not strong enough. How much are you willing to spend? How long of a commute? What type of community besides upscale you want to live in?
YOU GUYS NEED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC WITH YOUR MOVING QUESTIONS!

SORRY!
I know that was a very broad question, but my brother is being hesitant in giving me specific details, but I did get a few. He wants to rent an apartment for $1000 or less and be and hour or less from Campo. He's young (26), and enjoys a hip, youthful, energetic lifestyle. He is huge into mountainbiking, hiking, climbing, etc. He wants to be in the eastern part of the city because of the commute. Thanks again, and I hope this helps.

Ummm maybe El Cajon but for 1000 it will be an ok place.Nothing too special.Try some of the East County areas for that price range.Places like Tierrasanta,Poway,Mira Mesa would be out of your price range, and some of the areas in (South)East San Diego are pretty rough to San Diego standards.I would not recommend living there. So just stick to the East County cities if you want something in that 1000 dollar price range.

Good luck with that, unless he's willing to live in a hovel. You cannot get somewhat upscale and then say you want to pay $1000 or less for a one-bedroom. He wouldn't even be able to get a studio for that in a "somewhat" upscale neighborhood.

You forgot that he's looking for somewhat upscale and $1000 or less. Where is that in East County?

Look at La Mesa. There is really no such thing as cheap, upscale, safe, and convenient. You have to sacrifice something. San Diego is a very expensive place to live.

I just looked @ the atlas, wow Campo is WAY out & down there - - - If he likes rural living, he could check out Dulzura, Alpine, Jamul. . . pretty areas, but out of the city, but very close to Campo The outer Eastern suburbs of SD would be El Cajon, La Mesa, or Eastlake area of Chula Vista. . . closer to downtown where the kids his age party/ hang out, but further away from Campo. . . Good luck
