If you want THE best sushi in all of SD, you have to go to Edamame. It's in Tierrasanta, surprisingly.

Best Italian? Mama Mia in PB...it's on Balboa Ave. It's a little place, that is literally a house. The owners are straight from Italy.

You have to go to Studio Diner in Kearny Mesa (on Ruffin Road) for a good ol' diner.

Cheesecake Factory is always a goodie to me...oh and PF Changs. Both found in Fashion Valley.

Japanese/Sushi:
Tomiko (Encinitas, 50% off early bird some days)

Pizza:
Bronx Pizza (Hillcrest)
Fiores (Mission Hills/Hillcrest)
Giant Manhattan Pizza ( D Street in downtown Encinitas)

Mexican:
Ortegas (Hillcrest-fancy good)
Roberto's (the one just west of Torrey Pines state park; I think in Del Mar (Italian place right next door)
Santana (Hillcrest), more of a shack fast food place but good

Italian:
Piattis (La Jolla)

Breakfast:
Pipes Café (Cardiff)
The Mission (Mission Beach, North Park)
Brians (U. Heights/Normal Heights)- basic, bulky, but very good, not as refined as Mission

Lunch Special at the new Tajima by Mercury street is my favorite. I always order Sashimi and Spicy yellow Tail roll from two item combo. The portion is very generous: six pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of roll. It comes with rice, miso soup, and salad. I always have the rice to go.

Corrections:
Take away: Tomiko, Fiores, Ortegas, Roberto's, Piatti's, The Mission, Brians
Add: Wine Vault, maybe Tabe (truck), Il Formagia, Saffron, maybe Dumpling Inn, maybe Bull Taco

Bencotto in Little Italy is amazing. They opened not too long ago and already have a huge following! Unlike all the tourist trap places there, with terrible food, they actually know how to cook Italian food. I'm so glad they opened and even more glad the throngs of tourists haven't yet discovered it, since it's slightly off India and most are unwilling to walk the extra few steps!

A (relatively) new one to try in coastal North County: Blue Ribbon Artisan Pizzeria in downtown Encinitas. Exceptional hand-crafted pizzas from a wood-fired oven, amazing sandwiches, and creamy sweet corn soup with a ribbon of chili oil that is to die for. The chef/owner was formerly with Blanca in Solana Beach.

Trying it this weekend - heard great things. I've been working in Little Italy for 6 months now and can't believe that so many of these restaurants are terrible!

Not really a "restaurant", but DZ Akins is awesome.

You know one place that looks horrible? Cafe 56. I see the commercials all the time in the morning and the food looks unpalatable.

I don't think Mini-Cute even lives in San Diego any more.
