Hey all I am an 8th grade LA/ SS teacher up here in rainy Washington (Seattle) contemplating a move to San Diego. I keep hearing how impossible it is to find a job down there. Is this true. People say that they are laying off like 600 teachers this year. Are hundreds of people competing for the same job?

You've heard correctly. I would strongly consider waiting until after the budget passes to see how everything shakes out. The teachers may or may not actually get laid off.

It's looking pretty bad...maybe wait a year, when the budget gets back to normal, remember OR a few years back? it's supposed to be worse than that. I got my pink slip and I've been here 16 years.

So true! My wife found a teaching job but has to drive 2 hrs roundtrip...
NOt to mention the competition is crazy for a job here.
Credentials are nearly impossible to get quick
But the pay is GREAT! The better school districts.. hard to get into again... you can make nearly 100k (yes as a school teachER!)
