i've lived in downtown sd for a couple years, but finally want to get a little more bang for my rental buck.

i've been looking around areas, and i think i've settled on escondido.. but i'm a little worried based of what i've read here.

general sentiment is stay west/south, few people say north is ok too. i'm clueless but can someone give me specific areas of where to look for? like above x road.. near y road?

how's the area around here?
loc: 1050 Rock Springs Road Escondido CA US - Google Maps
the other place i was looking at was:
1350 Morning View Dr Escondido, CA 92026 - Google Maps

for reference, i'm a single male college student. i don't really care about schools, just some place that's reasonably safe (i don't want to worry about where i park my car and i won't mind walking around at night), and has some yuppy stuff reasonably close.

I you click on the link on the main page (school performance maps) then select elementary and secondary you will get a little more feel for neighborhoods. I would tend to move toward areas with better rated schools.

As a general rule, you'd want to stay in one of two areas:
- Southwest, below Gamble Lane
- Southeast, east of Centre City Parkway and south of Felicita / 17th / 78

BUT...

there are no apartment complexes in that area. You'd have to rent a house and it wouldn't be cheaper than renting a condo in downtown.

thanks all. i went to take a drive and look over the areas. the places i was looking at really weren't nice enough to justify being all the way in escondido
