Roaches in homes? outside?
I'm considering moving to San Diego from Seattle and am wondering what the roach situation is like down there. Have any of you encountered roaches in your homes? in your gardens? or is san diego another roach-free city like Seattle? Thanks!

The first place I lived had them almost all the time. The second about every other year. And the place I am at now (1.5 years) never seen one.It depends on where your living. The first place where I lived was pretty grimie as so a little bit with the 2nd one. This place I'm at now is supposed to be "luxury" apartments.

I've never seen a roach in my home or anyone elses here in San Diego. I did once see a big black bug that resembled a roach crawling out of the storm drain once but was told they are "water bugs" by a pest control guy. The biggest problem here are those tiny "argentine ants". They are a nuisance.

It really depends. I lived in one place in the early 90's that seemed like a roach motel. Other places have had few or none.
Seems like the worse the neighborhood, the more roaches.

I am moving from Florida where not only do we have big black dark roaches all over at night and in just about every apartment or house that is not brand new. If you live in a house that does not have pest control and has one window or door that has the slightest opening to the outside, you have roaches. Down in south FL, not only are there roaches, but there are palmetto bugs which are basically 3-4 inch roaches that are lighter in color, but equally disgusting, and they FLY!!!!!!! I am moving back to California where I was born, so I desperately hope that San Diego does not have a huge amount of roaches because they are my biggest fear. I dread summers in Florida for that very reason!

I saw palmetto bugs here too, a while back (in UTC area, outside at night). But generally no, roaches are not a big problem. Those ants, on the other hand ... omg ...

I suppose since there are palm trees, there are bound to be some palmetto bugs, but they tend to relocate to more humid places like FL and Hawaii, so I hope I don't have too much to worry about!
