Looking to move from Canada to California. Got tired of the cold up here.

1. how is San Diego compared with the BayArea. Both my wife and me are in tech. Been to Bay Area and its great. I find it overpriced / hyped + its a bit cooler - apparently cannot swim much at the beach??

2. which area should be we look at. Most cos are near La Jolla.

I am looking for an apartment or townhome to rent. Would like near the beach but also to shopping, groceries, east indian stores, transportation if required and something that is central. Do not need schools for now.

La Jolla
Carlsbad
San Diego downtown
Ocean Park
Del Mar
Poway

Thanks.

Default answer to moving to SD

I would recommend Carlsbad. There is a Kaiser in Carlsbad. It's a nice area with great shopping, great nightlife, awesome restaurants and beautiful coastline. You can get 1-2 bedroom apartments (pretty close to the water) for a reasonable price. I lived there before I moved to Oceanside and we found our apartment by riding our bike around. I think a lot of the apartments are on Craigslist but there is nothing like being there and checking out the area for yourself.
