Default Ok neighborhoods to live in close to San Diego Community college Mesa

I am getting ready to move to the San Diego near the community college in Mesa. I was wondering if there was anyone that is attending the college or anyone that lives in that area to give me some suggestions of the better neighborhoods to live in, and the more reasonable priced locations if possible. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated as I am not there to completely check things out myself. I plan on moving there around the middle of July so I would love feedback. Thank you, Jessica

I've been living in Clairemont since 92 and you can find some decent places along east side of Clairemont dr. and near Balboa Ave and Genesee. The most reasonably priced would be around Clairemont Drive which has a few large apt. Complexes. There are some areas in Linda Vista that might have better prices. I'm sure you will get some good opinions from people younger than me.

Mesa College is close to many apartment complexes on Linda Vista Rd and Ashford St.

Also there are a few apartment complexes located on Genesee Ave, not far from the college.

Another option is to check San Diego Craigslist under Rooms/Shared. Lots of college students share houses in Clairemont, and they are always looking for new roommates.

classifieds - craigslist

Sharing a house with a few roommates can be cheaper than renting an apartment by yourself.

I went to mesa college for a while and I lived right across the street from the campus. The complex was "Riviera DeVille" (corny, I know) and it was right on Armstrong and Ashford.
The clairemont area has lots of cheap tacky little houses for rent. Lots of students in that area. It is suburban and slightly boring but affordable. You can expect to pay $850-$1000 for a one bedroom in kearny mesa/clairemont. I think we paid $1050 for a 2 bed/1 bath apartment. Linda Vista is close to Mesa College and is even cheaper than Clairemont, but it is slightly more ghetto.

Clairemont/Kearny Mesa is not suburban. La Mesa/Spring Valley or Chula Vista are suburban. Clairemont is closer to the water and it is a nice area. It's not cheap either or I would be living there.

Clairemont was originally a first-ring suburb of San Diego, so I think it's got a suburban look and feel, but you are correct, it is no longer what I would consider a suburb, it is core urban. Even La Mesa (especially the west / south side) is becoming increasingly urbanized.

Okay so is Linda Vista (or atleast the military housing area) a ghetto beat down area? When we lived in San Diego and we lived out in Point Loma area for the majority of our time there. However, we are now putting in for military housing in Chesterton, but had never have been out Linda Vista during the entire 6 years we were there. Sad I know. So we are more than likely going to be moving in there.......without ever seeing the neighborhood. (invirginianow)

We are not young twenty somethings anymore, and want to have a family oriented neighborhood (baby on the way). People make it sound like Linda Vista is horrible??? I want to be able to go running around the neighborhood---is that safe?

There are OK sections but Clairemont is much better. I would avoid it and I live in Eastside SD.
