Default Clairemont

Clairemont can also be broken down a bit further, although your high-level description is fairly accurate.

Clairemont is a mostly quiet, middle-class, residential area.

It's main attraction is it's proximity within San Diego. It is central to everything. It is very close to Mission Bay and the beaches, and yet far enough so it isn't affected by noisy tourists or traffic.

The far northwest part of Clairemont has an area with some pretty affluent homes.

One of the nicest residential sections of Clairemont is known as the "Mount Streets". All streets are named "Mt. XXXXX st." It is located southwest of the Balboa Ave and Genesee Ave. intersection near Tecolote Canyon.

Overall, nearly all of Clairemont is 1960's era single-family one story homes. The homes are mostly well-kept, with an occasional slightly run-down one mixed in.

There are plenty of apartment complexes and condos located near the main streets in Clairemont including, Genesee Ave, Balboa Ave, Clairemont Mesa Blvd, and Clairemont Drive.

There are several large shopping centers, and lots of smaller ones located thoughout Clairemont. Lots of upscale shopping malls are located in nearby Mission Valley. Convoy St. at the east end of Clairemont (actually Kearny Mesa / Linda Vista) has lots of Asian stores, auto dealers, and auto repair centers.

There is one multi-screen movie theater in Clairemont Town Square. Other movie theaters are in nearby Mission Valley.

There are smaller parks and recreational facilities located all over Clairemont, with nearby Mission Bay being the ultimate place for recreation (picnics, jogging, biking, boating, rollerblading, etc). And the beaches (Pacific Beach and Mission Beach) are just 5 miles away.

There are several smaller library branches located within Clairemont, and bigger branches located in nearby Mission Valley and Pacific Beach.

I've lived in San Diego for about 3 years now - I live in a tiny town called Bonita that's between more well known National City & Chula Vista. Point is there are a lot of buffer areas and 'tween' areas here.

Another approach to finding a place to live vs. the 'google way' of gathering and analyzing all the info possible, is to find people who do what you do and see where they go. Hobbies might be a better way to profile than jobs. When I was considering a move to WA, I contacted cycling groups and asked them if I could join a ride on a visit. You'll get all kinds of random info, but ironically the random info might be more helpful than an undigestible list of data.

Keep in mind - it may be better to think of finding a place where you'll be happy than to find the 'best' place. In reality, there are probably lots of places where most people would be happy and if you go with 'best' you may search forever and second guess. My .02.

Yeah- - while we're at it, what say we go into the Houston forum and map out all the black areas so the fine white folks moving there can avoid them- - ridiculous

Help. I need some information about what the term "Gang Injunctions" mean. I'm assumming that each gang controls the area that is listed on the graph. Do they really have that much power/presence in San Diego. What has law enforcement done to reduce the amount of gang activity? Do they mainly "war" with other gangs or are outsiders affected by their activities?

It may have shown up earlier in this thread (which has been going on for a while). So I'll risk being redundant and offer the neighborhood crime stats link:

We just looked at a house in La Presa area on Saint George off sweetwater right next to the vons..
Could somebody PLEASE help us by telling us how the neighborhood is.
There is good and bad everywhere and for the prices of the houses i know we artent gonna have a white picked fence in a perfect community...
But I have read soooo much about how bad it is there.. ANYONE actually live over there that can give me an honest opinion?
