Default Relo from Canada - looking for housing advice

It looks like I might be moving from Canada to San Diego. I'm trying to get a handle on house prices. I'll be working in San Diego itself (92121 zip) and I'd like my drive to be 30 minutes of less (is this realistic)?

Our family is made up of my wife and I and 2 little boys - 4 and 2, so a safe, family oriented area with good schools would desired. My wife would also like a newer house (<10 years old) if possible.

I also don't want to be house-poor, so I'd like to keep the price around $600k, if possible. Is this realistic?

Thanks a bunch

We just moved to San diego and had been doing a lot of research.

Del Cerro/Allied gardens is a good area to look at, very family oriented, good well-rated schools, close ot the freeways. We actually enrolled our kids in hearst elementary which has a GATE and seminar program.

let me know if you need more information.

Pinal-
We're interested in the Del Cerro area. Did you already buy a place there or are you renting? Ideally we'd like to rent a house in the area for a year or so before we buy since we'll be new to the area. Can your recommend a real estate agent who is familiar with the Del Cerro area. Thanks!

600K house within 30 minutes from 92121 (La Jolla) is very doable. We got our house 5 months ago 4 bedroom/9 years old home in Scripps Ranch for $650K. And it has a really good elementary school. I work in La Jolla, and it takes about 30-35 min. locally.

92121, Sorrento Valley. Are you IT? Not that you have to be, but its one of the IT hubs of San Diego. You will find a lot of newer homes within a 30 minute radius that suit your price and needs. What size home are you looking for? The Poway school district is just North too, so you'll be in one of the best districts in Southern California
