Moving to San Diego From New York

Just my two bits: I had a great experience with a Realtor in the North County area of San Diego in case anyone want her contact info.

Here is a short list. These have good schools and are suburban. La Jolla is more of a beach town and the most expensive but has the best schools of all. Focus your search in North County and North Inland County. Those areas are the safest and cleanest areas with nice suburban communities and good schools.

Scripps Ranch
Carmel Mountain Ranch
Rancho Bernardo
Rancho Penasquitos
Poway (feels a bit mid-western)
Carmel Valley - if you can afford it
La Jolla - if you can afford it
Del Mar - if you can afford it

Note: We moved from NYC to SD in January and so we were asking around for neighborhoods as well. We ended up buying a home in Scripps Ranch. It is very nice and safe here. Great branch library as well.

I agree, all those places are perfect for raising famlies. I'm biased because I grew up in Poway/RB, but the schools are excellent and there is almost no crime. Back in the day, I was one of Poway High's troublemakers. Still, I turned out to be a CPA. My point is, even the troublemakers in the area end up being professionals. Good luck.
