I know exactly where it is, thank you, visited it myself as a teen. That's not exactly considered being a "west coast girl" lol...but ok, technically you got me. West Coast Canada and West Coast So Cal, are two different worlds!

check out Meetup.com and Yelp.com- - - you'll make friends quickly, you can join athletic/ arts orginazations and get involved in the city. By the way, bars/nightclubs are not the place to meet loyal friends.

Yeah....the party scene is not a good place to meet "real" people. I'm a very married guy and have tons of friends in the area and I don't consider them "flakey" at all. I'm not a native Californian either, I'm one of those arrogant East coasters I guess..lol....goodluck but I think you trying to hard.....take it slow.

ahh I love Vancouver, great city! (lots of green there too )
You don't really seem pushy to me but just really outgoing b/c you want to meet new friends. Besides trying to stay in contact with those you meet and want to hang out with maybe joining a club or something where people have similar interests. Lots of recreational adult sport leagues around here. My friend just moved to Chicago and that's how she met some new people there. You seem like a pretty normal and chill person so you should be able to find some people to open up eventually.

First off, Breeze 823, the west coast of Canada is the west coast regardless of how you like to perceive it. therefore I have and always will be a west coast girl. the weather is the same san fran to vancouver, and we are further west than San Diego "technically" but I'm used to my way or no way type of people here, so no worries, I will let 'your' opinion go.
as for the rest of you, thanks so much. I will check out those forums. and I Know the bar isn't the place to meet people for a long lasting friendship, but being I have been in holiday mode for the last 6 weeks (soon to end) I've pretty much spent my time at the beach, the bar or the pool.
I will look into something more meaningfull at your suggestions.
thanks so much again.
cheers

BTW, there is always the acception to the rule, hence, yourself obviously. An open mind is a wonderful trait, and it seems as though you have that. I hate to generalize and I did make some good friends there (east coast). I guess what I am used to, is over with, and may be out of the ordinary.
case in point: one night in Van me and my friends were out, we met this guy who didn't know anyone, we let him hang with us all night, befriended him and we invited him to our 21 friend thanksgiving dinner. he actually came even though he only met us out at the bar that one night. he brought a nice dish and we have all been friends now with him for 5 years.
this is what i am used to.......we Canadians are quite friendly, as are the Aussies.....
wish me luck on finding it here in SD

So, San Diego people are flakes..... not many Americans* know their geography.... I think I'm getting some insight as to why people are blowing you off. Maybe they don't like you.....
*Did you notice how I capitalized Americans and dropped the unnecessary apostrophe? Apparently not many Canadians know their grammar either.

if you keep looking in a cornflake box, yes they can indeed all be flakes.
start looking for beauty grace and love thru giving service & community which is all around you.
stop trying to hook up and you will cease to see cornflakes.

Yes, I am finding some SD people are flakes, and my friends in SD are the first to admit it...LOL
No, the majority of Americans do not know their geography, or much about anything other than their state. I could blame the system, but there's a point where you have to begin learning for yourself.
In Canada, strangely enough, we learn american history not our own, however, we have taken it upon ourselves to learn our own to the best we can.
I'm sorry but it's true, and an open minded educated American will be the first to admit it, as I have had this conversation many times over with intellectual americans.
but i have also had the look of confusion on my face when the girl at denny's says to me "what? they have tornadoes in oklahoma?????" "well how am I suppose to know, I was born and raised in the O.C.!"
ahhh it's so nice to find you american stereotypes on here, can't say the educated american is happy about that though, lol.
you know, the kind that likes to take a person's random comments and take them personally.
oh and stating that I am trying to 'hook up' that's classy of you since you don't even know me, but again, to be expected.
I know a lot of people in the USA and I am happy to say that they are NOT like you two. and sadly they are ashamed to be american. I hate to hear that because I love the USA, I love Canada as well. and I hope that one day you will be able to travel to another country without having to sew a canadian flag on your backpack, or will be able to say you are american in france and actually have someone help you out...
I am so sorry for my random miss typing on the word americans, but had I not spelled 'american's' incorrectly then you would have nothing to ***** about this evening....so in a way i am giving back.
to know me is to love me....hope you can say the same about yourselves.....
ps. take a note from the lovely people who have actually written something helpful on here and are not finding it pertinent to rebute everything I say negatively, as they understand it is an observation and not in regards to them personally....it's called security in themselves and understanding one's frustrations...try it.
