Hillcrest is not for me and I'm not wealthy enough for Mission Hills or Kensington.
Do you really think University Ave. between Park and the 805 is really that bad? I thought it was getting better.

If not Hillcrest, Mission Hills or Kensington, there's always South Park, Burlingame and Morley Field!?

Also, congrats on the baby! And what's this crap that I read on another thread that you are in the early stages of thinking about relocating? What makes you think that all of us here will let you go so easily?

University between Park and 805 is getting better. But go west of 805 and it's trashed all the way to La Mesa.

Don't worry we're not leaving any time soon. But unfortunately for us it's not looking good for our future here. We are doing fine now, but we want a second child and I want my wife to be able to stay home with the kids at least up until 3 or 4. At that point... San Diego starts to be a problem for us. San Diego is a great city but it is also a tarnished gem in some ways.

Default Relocating from Portland to San Diego

I have a good possibility of getting a job at a high tech company with a good pay. My wife is afraid that a)the quality of life and b) the cost of living will very different than what we have here in Tualatin, OR.

We have been looking to live in the Rancho Bernardo area since that would close to where the job is located, (zip 92127). Any other suggestion in this regard would be very much appreciated.

Any suggestions to calm down my wife sentiments about moving from peaceful Tualatin, (about 15 miles from downtown Portland) to SD?

We are a couple that has passed the years where having fun was very important; we're now more interested on a more peaceful environment and life style.

I left Portland once and moved to San Diego. Frankly, I wish I had stayed in Portland.
Avoid the 4 cities you mentioned for sure. Parts of Chula Vista are OK but the nicer parts of it are expensive. La Mesa is very nice and affordable. Clairemont isn't very nice but affordable. If you can handle $1,200.00-1,500.00 a month rent there are lots of places that are nice. It doesn't rain here so it's very brown. The tap water is terrible. The taxes are out of this world. If you want lots of sunshine and lots of beaches you will like it. good luck.
In two years we are moving to southern Oregon LOL.
