It goes right up to the base of the nearby mountains

Typical housing stock. Most of the new homes in SD County look like this

Otay Lake

New urbanism

Panoramic view - Ocean on the left side and mountains to the right

Yeah, NC does suck. I live here too. The only redeeming factors of this state are Ashville, Charlotte, and Wilmignton/Wrightsville Beach.

Unhappy Homesick

Thanks for the beautiful pictures!!!!!! Makes me homesick... Wish Id never left....unfortunately we had to leave 15 yrs ago as we couldn't make a go of it there too expensive even then.... Some day Ill be back! If It didn't cost so much we would be there!

Why does it cost so darn much to live there? Are jobs still hard to find?

I am a CA native, born and raised in SF and have spent a good majority of my adult life in San Diego (mostly Chula Vista) from being in the Navy. I retired from the Navy in Dec 06 and I think the job market is pretty good . . . just depends on what industry or job field you're in. Fortunately I was able to find a job pretty quickly earning a very good salary. Having said that, I'm disappointed with feeling like all I do is work. Maintaining this wonderful lifestyle (own a "townhouse" because single family homes are still out of our price range) with this beautiful year round weather costs - my husband and I both work. That is why we are relocating to Texas. I've lived in and visted many parts of the world and have learned to appreciate each place for it's own uniqueness. San Diego is alright, but there's more to life than the weather.
