Last Saturday, a friend and I drove up to funky Encinitas for breakfast, via the old Highway 101 and the always congested 5 freeway. Sit back and take a ride with me.....

The 5 North

The infamous "Merge" at Carmel Valley/Del Mar. There are 23 lanes of freeway at it's widest point

Look at the traffic coming South, and it's only 10:00 a.m!!! No accidents, just volume

East of Del Mar is Rancho Santa Fe, one of the wealthiest areas in the entire country

Encinitas is a great, little beach town where everyone seemed to be walking a dog or riding a bike.

So while we were having breakfast outside, I spotted this sign in the restaurant window

In addition to all of the convertibles, BMWs, Mercedes Benzes, Range Rovers and Harley's that seem SO prevalent up here, there were plenty of cool vintage cars mixed in

...on to Moonlight Beach

C'mon, this is the North County Coast, of course everyone has their Yoga/Pilates classes on the beach!

Now it's about noon and the traffic still sucked going South, so it was time to exit and take the 101 instead.

The much hated surfer statue. This poor guy seem to get vandalized on a regular basis

Nothing beats driving right along the ocean

Dog Beach in Del Mar

A quick shot of Downtown Del Mar

Another sweet car

The views along the Coast Highway are spectacular

That's the Amtrak line to LA below

Must-see Torrey Pines State Reserve is straight ahead

Who says we don't have open space left within city limits?

Saving the best for last - Black's Beach

View from the top

The people look like ants

The hike down is treacherous for some

The cliff on the right side is the one we just walked down

Did I mention that this was a swimsuit optional beach?

My obligatory surfer pic

There's no need to go to the NorCal or Oregon coast when we have this in our backyard

The trek back up kicked my butt. Notice the not-so-funny sign in the bottom right

Hot air ballons taken from the freeway

That's all for now!!

Default This one is just for fun

This is my dog Riley dressed up for Halloween. She is a cheerleader for "Pupperdine" .

She will be so happy to be moving to my new apartment near the dog park.

Sorry, but I just noticed that I spelled "Balloon" wrong in my most recent photo thread. Stuff like that really bugs me
