Your better off to start a new thread because this is mainly for photos.
Like typical flatlanders, my bud and I took a drive to the nearby mountains to check out the snow. Where we went (Descanso), much of the snow had melted, but there was still enough to make a snowman. It took us just 38 minutes to get from my house to the first sign of snow along the road. Only in San Diego!
In case you are wondering, we took the 8 East just past Alpine and exited at Old Japatul Valley Road/Highway 79 and drove for about 8 miles.
Our destination
I'd love to wake up to this view every morning (just outside Lakeside)
Getting closer
Once considered rural, Alpine (it can snow here, too) now looks like much of suburban San Diego. It's still beautiful, though.
Heading north on Highway 79
Some white stuff to take back home to Grandma
As we drove around the bend, the snow just appeared out of nowhere
I guess my fellow San Diegans had the same idea as us
Snowball fight
Looks like a good place to pull off the road
All you could hear were the sounds of children screaming and laughing
San Diego Snowman
Ok, being cold is overrated. It's time to head home
San Diego or bust
So next time someone tells you that San Diego weather is boring, show them these pics and ask them what it's like not having power for days on end.
Switching gears from my previous post showing snow in the mountains, let's head back to the coast, shall we?
Here are some shots from a short bike ride I did along San Diego Bay a couple of weekends ago (Yes, in December! ). I began from the tip of Harbor Island, thru Seaport Village and Embarcadero Marina Park, to the new Hilton Hotel, next to the convention center. It's about 5 mile each way, so put on your helmet and ride along with me.
Starting in front of Tom Ham's Lighthouse Restaurant. Food isn't great, but the view from there is awesome.
The restaurant on stilts
There's a reason why we are known as being "Laid back"
Rock Balancing
The Reuben E. Lee floating restaurant been a fixture on the bay since the 60's, but has been closed for a few years now. It's being renovated and will be opening up as a restaurant once again. This is where I took my prom date many years ago
Coming in for a landing
I really need to make friends with someone who has a boat
Hitting the designated bike/walk trail along North Harbor Drive next to the airport
Thanks for the snowy pics sdurbanite! This is where we were yesterday too and I got there only to find I left my SD card for my camera at home. A real bummer! The most I was able to do was take a few shots with my crappy camera phone, so this will be nice to look back on as well. Great shots! By the way, what time did you head out?
