Yeah, the problem is fighting traffic on the 56 or Mira Mesa Blvd. I'd much rather live in west Mira Mesa as it is not only closer to the ocean but the houses are also nice and there would be virtually no commute to Sorrento Valley as they're right next to each other.

RB is not what I consider walkable, you will need a car to go anywhere in RB area.

I suggest looking into downtown Carlsbad (the village) and/or Encinitas near 101. The area is gorgeous, by the ocean, decent schools and a few shops within walking distance. I also suggest La Jolla, maybe UTC area.

I also recommend renting before buying for at least 6 months, so you can decide what area best fits your needs. GL!

Encinitas...has everything you are looking for. You could take the Coaster (commuter train) to Sorrento Valley if that's where you are going to work. close to beach, great schools, shopping everywhere, etc.

Telecom sales/decent living....suggestion, I wouldn't move out here without a job or at least exploring the job market in your industry extensively. California has been hit hard by the economy and it is very expensive to live here.

From RB to Sorrento would be going south on I-15 and west on Hwy 56. All in the direction of heavy traffic in the mornings.

i am a native san diegan and still live here. if you are considering renting, alot depends on if your kids are school age. public school system is a big deciding factor where you rent/live. especially junior high/high school. that being said, central communities that are close to water would be point loma, ocean beach, pacific beach, encinitas, cardiff, to start. communities that are not as close to beach but have a "sense of neighborhood" would be mission hills, normal heights (north of adams avenue) coronado is cool but expensive to buy...north county coastal is fantastic..encinitas, cardiff would be ideal...solana beach and del mar are a little pricey but schools in all n. county are terrific.

We moved from North Jersey in October. Just so you know, it's not THAT warm here. In fact, we are cold every single day. At least NJ gets a guaranteed 3 months of warmth; it seems like it's always cold here. I think we've experienced 3 days where it was over 80 since October! So don't count on good weather. That's what you see on tv, but it's not the reality!

Where did you move to in San Diego? If you're living in a coastal area, yes, it will be cooler. If you want the heat, you have to be inland. I would suggest moving to El Cajon or Santee for the heat that you want. I'm originally from the DC area, so I know the kind of heat that you're referring to.

I think it depends on where you live in San Diego. The coast is cooler than inland. We have some warm days inland. Of course I don't need it to be over 80 to feel comfortable. Days in the 70s are nice to me and I know, living about 10-12 miles from the coast as I do, that I will have plenty of warm days.

I agree on the schools. When my kids were home, I might not have bought where I currently live (Rolando Park) as I would have wanted other schools. Since I'm an empty nester now, I don't have to think about the schools, but I am glad my grandson is going to be attending the Poway Schools my kids both graduated from. They are great. I would have chosen differently if I still had minor children at home.

We're in the UTC area. And we came for the beach, though not many beach days! It's freezing on the beaches! Yea, we could move more inland, but then what's the point of moving here to be close to the beach? I had no idea it was going to be so cold.
