Question Coming to visit 10/01-10/04 2008 - Need Ideas

Any festivals or concerts in the area at that time?

Any suggestions on what to see and what to miss would also be appreciated.

(we will be just two 50 somethings - no kids)

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions

Look at signonsandiego.com

There is a calendar with upcoming events. You should check it out. Also there is always something to do at Balboa Park.

Take a ride out to the mountains in the backcountry to the town of Julian. It's beautiful up there at that time of the year and many locals visit Julian in the fall. It's a side of the San Diego area that people don't normally see when they visit.

Also, the town of LaMesa (East of San Diego) usually holds their annual Oktoberfest the first weekend of October, which falls when you will be here. There are beer tents, German food, vendors, arts and crafts, etc. on all the downtown streets--lots of fun.

October is a great time to visit San Diego because autumn is starting and we are all looking forward to the heat of September to subside. But, remember, October is also our hot dry Santa Ana winds time. Static will be in the air!

Like the previous reply said, Oktoberfests are held the first weekend - the largest one is in La Mesa and it is accessible by the San Diego Trolley so you don't even need to drive out there yourself. Welcome to La Mesa Village

If you want to head up the coast for another Oktoberfest, Carlsbad has a lively one as well - Welcome to Rotary Oktober Fest Web Site. Believe it or not, this one is also accessible on public transit - The Coaster which is a commuter train but should be operational for this very big event. Both sites should have maps and transit links so you and your fellow 50-something can imbibe freely. Be sure to bring your I.D. as the security people often have no sense of humor when you try to show them your wrinkles (if you have them) as proof.

Have fun!

If you have the time, make sure to schedule a day trip wine-tasting in Temecula. The last time I went we took the Grapeline shuttle and it was awesome: www.gogrape.com . Having a designated driver that knows where he's going can't be beat Have fun!
