Default Pet friendly rentals in OB

I'm moving to OB in a few weeks and am having a tough time finding pet friendly rentals. I have a fat, lazy siamese cat so i figured it wouldnt be much of an issue but I'm starting to get discouraged. I've been searching mainly on craigslist.....anyone have any ideas?

We have the same problem (but with dogs), and the solution is to call anyway. Most of the time people will let it slide with an extra deposit.

When I was searching for a new place to rent, OB was one of those places with really friendly acceptance of pets, especially dogs(it seems like everyone in OB has a dog! They even have two dog parks there!). Odd you're having trouble finding them.

I guess its tough since I'm not out there yet. I'm still living in Miami.

Oh, and I'm the master of flea genocide.

Oh god, we lived on the hills(wooded area, point loma) and the fleas simply.will.not.go.away. We used Advantage, Frontline, borax, etc, and if we miss just one month, the fleas will be everywhere. The like to live on the carpet!

It's harder if you're not here 'cause they (landlords) can't meet you in person. I'd suggest letting them know it's an indoor cat (if it is) and offer a reasonable pet security deposit (not too much though, no sense letting someone you don't know hold all your $). If you're really having a tough time, try getting a letter from your vet (cat is well cared for, you are a responsible pet owner). I did this once and got my cat on the lease in a no pet complex.

Not all OB rentals make it onto Craigslist. Some people just post signs... I've always found my OB places by driving/walking the neighborhood and seeing the signs (as have people I know who rent there). You might try Pruett Realty--they have OB rentals and tend to allow pets, but the places I've known them to handle are sort of on the "worn" side (older carpet, etc).

Re: fleas, when I lived in OB I only had to have my (mostly indoors) cat on advantage during the summer months.

Houses in OB tend to be pet friendly. Apartments not so. Depends on owner/realtor.

There's also a huge demand for rooms/houses in OB. Compare CL OceanSide ads to OB ads and you'll see dozens of OceanSide ads, only a handful OB ads on any given day. I put my room up and had over one hundred replies.

Dont be discouraged. The post about driving around and looking for rent signs is on point. I was doing that today (trying to get closer to the beach).

You may want to rethink your strategy. Why not move out to SD and then try to make your way into OB. One of the things we have out here are month-to-months leases, much more than anywhere else I've ever lived.

Thats what I did. Works.
