El Indio is a bit overpriced for what you get. There are cheaper "cheap eats"(they have this newspaper article calling the place "cheap eats") around. They even charge you 70 cents just to get the guacamole(which isnt even all that great) when everyone else does them for free.

Still pretty good though for a healtheir meal.
Your right. Those chain joints are good for what they are, but they are not authentic Mexican. What was I thinking !

If anyone is craving those TJ tacos without having to cross the border, check out La Puerta in the Gaslamp. 3 palm size carne asada tacos with a side of rice and beans for 9 bucks!! Good stuff. The TJ hot dogs (doggers wrapped in bacon are suppose to be good, too. On top of that, it's a cool bar/restaurant to chill in. Not touristy at all.

Thee best mexican restaurant is in Point Loma and is called Miguel's. It's south on Rosecrans and I believe you make a left when you see the Wells Fargo on the left - 3 miles down from the 8 freeway.

Rubios used to be the joint until it got too big. A fish burrito used to be twice as big as it is now for half the price. Do love their hot sauce though.

I have been dreaming about Old Town Cafe ever since I first ate there. It is sooo dang good. The homeade tortillas are to die for. The place looks dumpy, but I am okay with that. The bad thing is the long wait. I have rarely been there without a long wait. But it is sooo worth it.
