Gang Activity - 4S Ranch?
I currently in process of relocating out to San Diego, and looking for a good family neighborhood, I have a couple kids. A realtor took me around 4S Rancho Bernardo area today and I noticed a couple tagged grafitti on some walls. I'm not sure it was gang symbols, but looked sure looked like it. Anybody have any info on gang activities in that community?
Thanks in advance.

What did it look like?
I would say that the majority of graffiti out there is not gang graffiti.
If it had 13 or X13 or anything like that, it definitely is gang graffiti. But even then, it doesn't necessarily mean the neighborhood is gangland.

Theres no gangs over there. But there are lots of bored teenagers with nothing to do, so that means there is tagging. I see it in Carmel Valley as well.

I live very near (Westwood Rancho Bernardo) by Forest Ranch and shop in in forest Ranch. I strongly believe that you should not worry about gang activity in the neighborhood. Probably graffiti art is done by outsiders. It is a great neighborhood to raise kids. Good Luck.

That sounds like a joke.Graffiti does not always mean there is gangs in an area.

There's an Asian gang in the area, you can frequently see them riding their skateboards or harrassing passers-by. There's a plaza in 4S Ranch (Ralphs, Bank of America, etc) and it's nearly deserted after 9 pm. Try to walk into Ralphs at 11 pm and you'll only see a couple of people. Ralphs in UTC gets more customers at 3 AM than the store in 4S Ranch at 11 pm. In Rancho Bernardo, people are afraid to come out at night.
All best sub-communities in 4S Ranch area (Crosby, Ivy Gate, Bel Etage etc.) are gated. That's not a coincidence. Nothing protects your house and family against gangs as well a guarded gate.
The whole neighborhood is rapidly going downhill. There's even a Hooters nearby - just opened last year. What's next, a strip club?
Speaking of strip clubs, there was a major scandal recently in San Diego involving strip club owners bribing politicians. One of the politicians in question is now serving a 8-year prison term behind bars. His former residence was less than 5 miles from 4S Ranch.
There are 3 known registered sex offenders living in Rancho Bernardo (zip code 92127) and a bunch more in nearby zip codes 92128 and 92129.
Do you really want to live in such a place?

Bored teenagers riding skateboards aren't necessarily a gang. Harassing people is what teenagers do.

There are registered sex offenders in plenty of other places as well.
I could think of far worse places to live in San Diego County than Rancho Bernardo or surrounding areas. It's a nice area and a good place to raise a family.

That probably has to due to the fact that RB is a quiet, family oriented suburb and that UTC houses a large number of college students and not b/c people in RB are afraid to come out at night. Take a look who is at the Ralph's at 3am in UTC, it's usually college kids.

Gangs are hardly the reason those communities are gated, being able to sell homes for more money and appeal is the most likely the primary reason they are gated. Gated communities are built in some of the safest areas with no crime all the time, status and peace of mind is all that is about.

It's just a restaurant, nothing even close to a strip club

So b/c there is one corrupt politician living near 4S that infers the entire area is bad? Randy "Duke" Cunningham lived in Rancho Santa Fe so would you call that a bad area b/c he chose to reside there.
Talk about inferring some off the wall things from nothing more than anecdotal evidence.
