I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rosaria's in Mission Beach, it's my favorite pizza in California. Nice crispy thin crust, slightly sweet and nicely seasoned sauce, perfect portion and texture of mozzarella. I'm a purist, I prefer the cheese. Love the little salad that comes with their lunch specials, it is topped with a very refreshing house dressing.

Rosaria Pizza

The well known SD NY pizza place, I forget the name, but it was authentic including typical NY attitude. The pizza was just ok though. Prefer the chicago place, leftys. It's isn't as thick as what they do in IL, but it is good imho. I've also noticed Margherita (Italian traditional) pizza appears to be popular here, perhaps because it's healthy.

Having spent a decade in NYC in the 1990's and decades in NJ prior, I can say that Bronx Pizza (of SD) is the most authentic resemblance to true NY/NJ pizza of the 1970s (very unique taste). Today's NYC pizza (Ray's) with your exception and John's aint so great - mere average to good.

That's because the Italians sold the pizzerias to the Persians and the Chinese in the 80's and moved to Long Island. Where I grew up (Huntington area) we have better pizza than in much of Manhattan.

I used to live in San Diego and now roam the Brooklyn Heights area which is the home to Grimaldi's Pizza. I have two words for you... TOURIST TRAP!

I have to disagree with you amigo. If you like burnt crust and a flavor no better than the next pizza joint around the corner, then yes, Grimaldi's would be a great place to eat...while you wait in a line halfway down Fulton Street with every NYC tourist trying to snap photos in every direction. I'm so disgusted with the hype of this restuarant that I would even choose Filippi's Pizza over this place (not that I think Filippi's is all that great).
