My 9 year old son plays AAA hockey in Western NY. Does anyone know anything about youth hockey in and around the Carlsbad area where my husband would be working?

Mira Mesa (http://www.sdice.com/youthleague.htm - broken link) is probably your best bet. There aren't a lot of hockey options in San Diego though.

You will probably be disappointed. My son played hockey in Cleveland before we moved to San Diego and the quality was so much lower that it made me sad to watch him in the program. That combined with the beautiful weather made me not want to sit inside a rink for hours on end so he stopped playing. We are now back in the Northeast and looking to get him back into hockey. We tried the program in Mira Mesa but I think Escondido has a program and that is closer to Carlsbad.

Actually the travel hockey programs in San Diego are pretty strong and have been more than competitive nationally for the last 15 years. Unless you play or your kids have played chances are you don't know much about the local youth hockey scene

Definitely contact this website

the San Diego Jr Gulls are in Escondido
the San Diego Oilers are in Mira Mesa
the La Jolla Jaguars are in UTC(La Jolla)
