Okay, so it's not the PB Block Party or anything:
If you never attended San Diego's PB Block Party in Pacific Beach, you missed out on a super fun Mardi Gras like event. The city would close a major portion of Garnet Avenue down, all the way from Crystal Pier on up to Ingraham Street, making it available to pedestrians but not cars. Several music stages were set up, with great sound systems in place. Thousands upon thousands of people would turn out. People would literally dance in the street. There was a fenced off beer garden where you could drink beer. But just like the Proposition D beach booze ban issue, the local residents got tired of the event, they started to complain, and District 2 councilman Kevin Faulconer ended the PB Block Party just like that with a snap of his fingers. You should know that Councilman Faulconer is the same person who decided to outlaw drinking on the beach after the 2007 Labor Day brawl took place.
Tomorrow there's an event in PB in the same vicinity where the old PB Block Party used to take place. While it's not the PB Block Party, it does bear a small (albeit a very small) resemblance to it.
The city will close down a few streets, it is outdoors, and who knows, maybe it'll feel a little like the PB Block Party of old, though on a much smaller scale. I'm only guessing because this is the first time PB has ever hosted what they're calling a 'Brazilian Festival'. It should be a very interesting mix of people that'll comprise the crowd as you'll have a horde of Charger fans representing Charger Nation coming into PB to watch the Chargers start their season against the Carolina Panthers.
Just imagine if the Chargers kick off their season by beating Carolina. The game will end and all the happy fans will drift out of the bars and into the street where the Brazilian Street Festival is taking place. But hey, lets keep in mind that when it comes to Garnet Avenue in PB, you'll see a variety of NFL jerseys representing all kinds of different cities worn by people of every age and gender every Sunday during the NFL season. So even if the Chargers lose, you're bound to see a few joyous fans celebrating their teams victory.
And if you're not into street festivals or the NFL, you can always hang back, watch the spectacle, take it all in and then mosey on down to the boardwalk for a little peace and quiet to round out your day.
No, I'm not Brazilian. The preceding message was a random act of kindness
